Experienced sellers: Is there a downturn in sales during the entire Thanksgiving weekend (Thurs.-Sun.)? Do things perk up by Saturday? I would think some out-of-town guests would get tired of visiting and possibly visit their relatives' computers--(and make bids)--but I could be wrong. It would be nice to know so we can avoid ending auctions that weekend. Also, what about other holidays and three day weekends? Generally bad for auctions? Thank you in advance.

Last year for me, Thanksgiving was a little off- but the days afterward, especially Saturday n' Sunday were good-
I think its the turkey and dressing backlash that kept the bids at bay- this year I expect more of the same

I don't remember exactly how our sales went last year, but I do remember sitting at my parents' house and my sisters and I scouring eBay for gift ideas for the family. I think that the computer/eBay/online shopping has changed some people's shopping habits. I intend to have my regular number of auctions running all weekend! JMHO.

I don't know about you-all, but when I can't take any more of my wacky family, I go into the computer room to get away from it all!!
Last year I started shopping on thanksgiving day for that very reason and ended up spending about $100 on Amazon for gift books.
Your mileage (and your wacky family) may vary.

My Thanksgiving sales were fairly strong last year & I've got auctions ending on all 4 days of the holiday weekend this year.
I think my bidders were sick of turkey, wacky family & overdosed on football so they went surfing instead.
I keep mine running over holidays, not that I think there will be major sales, but to keep my seller ID in front of potential bidders who might want to check back & see what's running the next time they are on. Seems to work pretty good for me.

My sister went to her in-laws for Thanksgiving last year and said that those who weren't interested in football were all browsing on eBay. Some of the folks who had never seen eBay before were like kids in a candy shop, buying Christmas gifts, so you never know.

I had listed quite a few items to end over the Thanksgiving weekend, but the buy it now option is making my list dwindle quicker then I thought. Go figure.

I would love to see some more comments about thanksgivings past, and also, how do sales go over the Christmas/ New Years holiday? Was out of town for that one last year.

soldbj,
My post Christmas sales went fairly well also. Guess some people were out shopping for the stuff they didn't get from Santa. Who knows, maybe they were VERY BAD last year, but it was VERY good for me.

I don't know about thanksgiving day but I do know that right after christmas last year everything I wanted to bid on and the stuff I was selling did very well. Don't know if everyone was using the money they got for christmas or what but seems spending was up right after christmas.

The day after Thanksgiving is the #1 shopping day of the year so I would assume now that a vast majority of those shoppers are doing their shopping on ebay that it will be good.
As others posted - getting away from the family etc. I believe Thanksgiving weekend will be good.
After Thanksgiving - the day - women, anyway have Christmas gifts and shopping on the mind - easy way to solve - buy on line.
I wasn't selling last year at this time but plan on having a lot up during the 4 day weekend - unless buy it now significantly decreases my inventory. Love that - posted a puzzle at 8pm - gone this morning with only 6 looks.

I normally avoid holidays like the plague, but Thanksgiving represents the kickoff for Christmas buying. Listing during the mornings or afternoons of this 4 day weekend would probably be a bad idea as most people hit the malls, but the evening could have great potential. I expect a lot of lookers, and many impulse buying.
