You say that you do not accept PayPal. Do you have an account with them? If not, all the buyer needs to do is cancel the transaction.

Have you tried sending the buyer a payment back from paypal (assuming you have an account)?

It's HER problem, not yours. She can get the money back, and she will have to figure out how to do it.

Your only problem is tactfully telling her this.

Can you transfer the money to a friend's PayPal account and have them send you a check?

How come you can't transfer the money back?

Change the email address on the account to one that isn't associated with your ebay account so this doesn't happen again.

or send her the money back and close the account so no one else can send you money that your Paypal account will automatically accept

or as above--change the email so it's not the same as your ebay account

Why can't you just paypal it right back to her?

Unless something at PayPal has changed recently, again, you don't need to have a PayPal account for someone to send you $$$.

It's happened to me a few times, the "You got Cash" crapola, and I don't have a PayPal account.

I told the high bidder to cancel the deal, and send me a check or MO. Since I started accepting Billpoint the PayPalers just send it via Billpoint.

This is the entire problem with PayPal!! IMO, they should not accept payments to and from anyone with an email address. I consider this SPAM. It's simply a shady, unprofessional "hook" to coerce people into opening accounts even when they don't wish to do so. This policy puts me at risk even though I have purposely chosen NOT to sign up with PayPal because anyone can still send them my email address. I don't want my email address or ANY of my personal info in their database because I don't trust them. If I wanted to use PayPal, I would have signed up with them.

PayPal would solve many problems by simply changing their current policy and making it mandatory to have an account already set up before they'll accept payment to and from anyone. Of course, this will cause them to lose their "hook" but may have the advantage of actually giving them some much needed respect. I am totally amazed when I look at their TOU which states that they don't approve of spam and yet their business relies on and is actively encouraging the very same.

BTW, my spell checker is still substituting the word "payola" for "PayPal" which I think is absolutely RIGHT ON!!

Though I agree that payments should not be accepted for folks without an account, they ALL do this (exchangepath, payplace, paydirect, etc). Though there's a lot to complain about PP, we can't single them out for this one.

Hi yisgood. I didn't know they all used this marketing technique since I don't use ANY third party payment methods. This procedure makes me feel like I'm "pimping" for the payment company and, in the case of PayPal, if I don't trust them I hardly think I'm going to put someone else in their clutches who has not already signed up on their own.

Do you know if BillPoint requires an account before accepting payments?

....and they will not give it back to her....

Has she told you WHY they won't send it back to her? could here be a little piece of info missing on her part?

Hi Blanche

With Billpoint I don't use the "Instant Payment" option so the only way I can get funds via Billpoint is if I send someone an invoice first.

I do this for a number of reasons, and they ALL have to do with ME controlling who's sending me $$$ via a 3rd party service that allows charge backs.

edited to add: You need to be signed up with Billpoint in order to receive funds via their service.

reddeer, thanks for the info on BillPoint. I am probably going to have to think about using a third party payment option and BillPoint sounds like the best choice for me since it does afford some control over who receives the invoices.

i contacted paypal and the buyer. havent heard a thing. she gave no reason why they wouldnt give her money back. she just said they wont and i have to do the rest. i cant without signing up. my terms are so short and simple ,their is no way to be confused when reading them. i think this was an attempt on her part to get the 5 dollar refferal money that blew up. now im in the middle.
tried calling paypal but its a 30 minute wait on my dime. what a mess

I don't see the problem. If you don't take paypal, the buyer should not have made the payment there. It is the buyers problem, not yours. I would just tell her, sorry I don't take paypal and am not signing up for it. I get people asking me all the time to use paypal and I tell them money orders, checks, or billpoint are your options.

i got through!!! and i got someone very nice and helpful!!! amazing. they have put the money back into the customers account. i think......... all is well now??? what a waste of time. i dont blame paypal i blame buyers who dont bother reading TOS or ,do read them and chose to ignore them.
i hope this is over.
thanks to everyone in this thread for their support.
