Ok here we go again and let me be the first.
where to begin?
when I processed my own credit card transactions the bank charged me .11 per transaction and 1.770%, I have the statements to prove it, if they could make money on me at that amount why does PayPal have to charge so much more? they don't send a statement, it's way easier for them to process everything the way they do because they don't have hundreds of thousands of terminals in the field. they don't have to send someone to by business to program the machine, or fix the equipment. I just don't get it.
we still don't have a way to refuse a payment, why would you want to refuse a payment? someone sends you 100.00 and they only owe you 10.00 you were just charged a fee on the 100.00, and only a supervisor can give you a credit of the fees if that happens.
we still don't have a statement for the fees they charge, sure you can download everything and dump it into a spreadsheet, but for a service I'm paying for should we have to?
there is still not any security features in place so you know that the payment was sent form PayPal, I've been on them for that one from the first week I used PayPal, and I was one of the first people that advertised PayPal! just something like a keyword in the payment so you can sort your mail with that keyword and have it dump into a different folder so I don't have to check all the headers before I send the items to know it came from PayPal. just this alone would save me a few hours a month, but they are not here to help us they are here to make money.
I don't care to earn any money on my balance, I don't care for anymore referral fees, international don't need it, don't want it, and is it still a free service in other countries?? are they using the fees they charge us to fund referrals in the new countries they are going into?? do the new countries have the old referral system?? the list is far longer than I will post here as are the problems that still plague the service and they are slow to address and quick to sweep under the carpet.
I guess PayPal thinks we can't live without them to pull this right before the holidays, you can almost see them sitting around the conference table saying, they will all swallow the extra fees, they have to it's Christmas and they don't want to risk loosing any business. November 30 will be the last day I take PayPal transactions, I will keep the account I'll just change the email addresses so the people on the sending end can cancel the transaction when it shows it is just pending. Hopefully PayPal will come around and adopt the same business practices that are applied in the real world, the more business I bring you the better the service and the lower the fees, if so I'll be back.
I hope our buyers will use one of the other services out there as most all have PayPal beat in doing what I want, just accepting a simple payment no frills, no fees. If not I guess they can always send a check

???! You're warning people not to use PayPal but you still have an account and accept it? Can you share that logic with me?

Simple. Paypal acted like a drug pusher and addicted 4 million people. There are still some die hard folks who insist on using it. So I send them to my page for some education. Then I tell them that if they insist on using PP, they have to pay from their existing balance. If they want to pay with CC, they have to be verified and add 2%. Of course I recommend other services. In two weeks I only had one person who insisted on PP. I withdrew the money right away. So the worst happens and he charges it back and PP restricts my account, big deal. But I see nothing wrong in keeping my account and using them the way they used me.

What yisgood and abingdoncomputers say. Requested a check about two weeks ago to draw my PayPal account down to a couple bucks; check arrived in yesterday's mail.

I agree with you on Paypal, and I also quit paypal a couple weeks ago and now refer them to your page (Thank you for the great page, by the way!)
But my question is, how do you get away with charging your customer 2% to pay with a CC? Before I quit accepting paypal I charged my customers 25¢ to pay with paypal (only did that for about a week) and I was told it was against ebay's rules, not to mention illegal. I got all kinds of complaints, threats of negative feedback, and one person even cancelled her transaction with me. So I just closed my account (for several reasons).
Do you get the same response to your 2% fees that I did?

I keep $5.00 or less in my paypal account. I transfer as soon as payment hits to a bank savings account that I keep a $5.00 balance in. As soon as the transfer is complete to that account, I withdraw and put it into regular account. The credit card I have on file with them has a very low limit also.

I keep a business account like you guys do do with a checking account that I have $6.00 in. However I also keep a personal account so I can transfer to the personal and then send it to my real accounts.

No more PayPal here either, as of 11/14/00. I've had a couple more payments trickle in from previous auctions, which I did go ahead and accept since PayPal was in the terms of those auctions. PayPal's logo has been removed from my auction templates and replaced with "Sorry, No PayPal".
I asked my bank today whether or not PayPal could indeed remove money from my checking account, and was told that if PayPal can deposit it, they can take it back out. For $29 I can put a block on my account (similar to stopping payment on a check) that will prevent them from being able to withdraw any money. By the way, I'm not verified.
Nope, no more PayPal here either. Personally, I'm just not comfortable with them handling my and my bidders' money.

It is NOT illegal. It is illegal for someone who accepts credit cards to charge a fee for doing so in many states. If you have a merchant account, they make you agree not to charge a fee. This is the agreement that PP signed, not me. I am not charging a fee for using CC. My customers are free to use CC with Exchangepath, Payplace and Moneyzap for free. I am charging only if the customer insists on using PP with a CC.
Ebay will cancel your auction if someone complains. (One of the reasons I stopped posting there.) But I dont state this in the auction. I state "I accept EP, MZ, Payplace, Achex, check or MO. PP accepted with conditions, click here" and then I take them to my web page which explains why they shouldnt use it and why I have to charge if they insist on choosing PP and CC. No one has complained. Most have thanked me for the info and signed up with EP. Only 1 paid with PP in two weeks.
