Email addy link for your auctions is no longer available.
No need for private auctions now.

But it looks as though you can still get their email addy if you click on each username.

Can you explain what you are talking about? I don't see a difference...

Go to an auction item page, the link to show bidders with their email addresses is gone.

Probably an attempt to make it more difficult to harvest email addresses. I remember quite some time ago, eBay introduced the eBay 'User ID'. Before this, your user ID was just your email address, so the User ID was supposed to help shield users from spam. It's quite obvious it didn't work.

Ok, gotcha. It only shows the email addresses if you are the seller. Thanks for pointing that out!

It's even gone off my closed auctions.

But it seems as though anyone can click the bidders username and get the email address.

Yep, that's true. I just tried it on someone else's auction and it showed me their email address.
What's the sense of having this feature then?

Just what we need. More steps to slow down the EOA process. Sh**

It seems it is to thwart bots, spiders, etc from gleaning email addys. But they'll have their bots re-programed in a few days so it will just make it harder for sellers to get quick access to their bidder's email addys.

*** Privacy Protection Update ***
Dear eBay Community,
Many members have complained about receiving unsolicited commercial email (SPAM) from third parties and other eBay members, as a result of using eBay. These emails can be problematic because they contribute to a number of concerns: distrust in the community, disruption of trade, violation of member privacy, and eBay policy.
Your privacy is important to us and essential for the vibrancy and integrity of the eBay community. We have been working on a series of solutions that will be implemented in a phased approach to address these privacy concerns. Over the next few months, we will continue to improve your privacy protections by changing how email addresses and contact information are displayed and how communication between members takes place.
The first change will occur in the next few weeks. This change will allow only members involved in a transaction to view email addresses in lists. However, all members will continue to be able to request email addresses of other members individually. These changes will not prevent you from communicating with another member. The changes include:
* Change to View Item and Bid History pages:
Sellers will be able to see bidder email addresses displayed on their Bid History pages for active and successfully closed listings. However, all members will continue to be able to view the list of bidder User IDs and individually request their email addresses. For a preview of the change go to:

http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/preview/bid_history2.gif
* Change to the “Display email address when viewing User ID” preference:
The Sign in preference in My eBay that enables users to “display email address when viewing User ID” will change such that only those involved in the transaction will see email addresses next to User IDs throughout the site. Also, email addresses will no longer appear next to User IDs on the chat boards. For a preview of the change go to:
http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/preview/Email_login.gif
* Change to the Seller Search feature within Advanced Search:
Only sellers will have the option to view their Seller Search results with bidder email addresses. However, all other members will continue to be able to view the list of bidder User IDs and individually request their email addresses. For a preview of the change go to:
http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/preview/Seller_Search1.gif
Please note that these changes will impact all eBay sites.
We realize that these changes will not completely prevent SPAM. However, we are developing additional ways to more effectively preserve your privacy and the viability of the eBay marketplace, and expect to announce further changes in the next several months.
Sincerely,
eBay

This is great news for the weasels who write email harvesting programs for spammers. Now all the spammers will have to buy updated versions of the software. Once they all upgrade, this change will make absolutely no difference.

Now I'll have to manually do each one!
Wow, this is progress.
