I was thinking of running a promotion during the first 3 wks in December. Something that all bidders would be entered in...a raffle/giveaway type thing. If you bid, you get an entry. Each week, there would be a drawing from that week's bidders. I sell high-end designer/new stuff, so the prizes would be along those lines. Pampering type stuff.

Would it work...be an incentive to bid? I thought it would be a nice "thank you" to return bidders, but I am wondering if the idea is dopey.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but I believe it's against ebay's rules...

That's a possibility, too. I think, though not sure, that the rule is something like it has to be offered to all bidders...

Hopefully Glenda will see this

Not at all dopey! I think it is a nice gesture. It is no more dopey then sending out little extras in a persons packages to their high bidders. It is the small things that keep my customers coming back, and they let me know that they really appreciate it. Ihave a couple of things planned for all of my winners from Dec. 1st right up until I quit for the Holidays. Which will be about Dec. something-or-other..... :lol

Julesy - FYI

Bonuses, giveaways, raffles and prizes

Listings that promote bonus items, giveaways, or random drawings or prizes as an enticement for bidders are not permitted on eBay as these promotions are illegal lotteries in many states.

Policy: These types of listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.

The full enchilada can be found here.

I once ran my auctions with exactly the same thing Julesy, for a computer system.

I was shut down, ALL my auctions, and almost permanantly NARU'd from ebay.

They were VERY clear about it.

To think that GIVING away something will get you booted, but the scammers who TAKE get to stay.

Sad really.

Oh dear...so much for that

Thanks, Reddeer, for the link.

True, it's sad that good intentions are automatically questioned. Grrrrrr...

Don't quit thinking like that- there are more suitable bonuses/incentives that you may be able to offer that will inspire the bids...

Maybe this idea doesn't get the bidders in like you hoped, but how about something like this: Once you have a bidder, e-mail them and tell them all bidders on your auctions the first three weeks of December will be entered into a drawing for a nice gift.

It might entice more bidding on your other items by the same bidders hoping to increase their chances.
