First, does anyone have Paypal's customer support telephone #? I am a Premier member but can't find the phone number on their site.
Anyway, a customer accidentally mailed me payment twice. Normally I would just "beam" the extra money back to her, but I am worried about her incurring "transaction fees" and my not being credited the fee taken out of my extra payment. Any thoughts?

That was another problem I had before closing my Paypal account. All you can do is email her the money back, and just deduct the transaction fee if you want. As far as I know there's no other way around it.
This wouldn't even be able to happen if you had the option to "decline" a payment to begin with. But then again, that would just make too much sense.

Hi Lisa,
I hope you got the phone number in question. I also had that happen to me. However, personally, I didn't want to pay for my customer's mistake and I didn't think she had to either. A mistake is a mistake. After speaking & corresponding with PayPal, I was able to get this resolved. You must submit her payment back to her to get the fees credited. It took some time, but PayPal did come through.

Edited to provide this link (sorry I do not know how to make it live) of my experience with PayPal and an (888)#: (888) 221-1161

Thanks guys! Turns out the customer had a Personal Account. I beamed the extra back to her but now have to get the extra fee refunded to me.

UNBELIEVABLE! I just got off the phone with Paypal -- I mean we're just talking about a $1.71 fee here . . . and they "don't reimburse fees." The customer rep promised to talk to her manager about making an exception because of the circumstances.
This is a serious glitch in PAYPAL that should be remedied immediately! People should not be stuck with fees when honest mistakes are made.

Lisa,
Keep pressing. Did you read my link? Read it all the way through. It's a difficult task, but can be remedied.
Still with PayPal,

Avmom, thanks for people like you to press on even over 0.13, this may help Paypal straighten out.
But WTF... why is there still this problem? Although I will still accept and use paypal, henceforth I will suggest exchangepath as first option.
Maybe paypal deserves to die.

Avmom, I had to run earlier but just now read through thread.
Still unbelievable -- that a company like this -- that has already incurred credibility problems -- cannot be bothered to accommodate their customers in these sorts of circumstances. They just don't get it, do they?
Like you, I am not going to let this rest until my $1.71 is refunded.

Hi!
Have you ever been to a store where they add the credit card fee to your total? I have, they make you pay they're added charges. Next time you run into something like this just refund the total less the trans. fee! And if like to, you too could charge a return fee of your own.

Bubba - bendin' over ain't my thing. Maybe it's because I'm not a man.
Dadofstickboy -- My customer was new to Paypal and made a mistake. I will not in good conscience pass along "fees" like that to my customers. Just because Paypal has no concept of "good faith" and customer service doesn't mean I don't.

"However, personally, I didn't want to pay for my customer's mistake and I didn't think she had to either. A mistake is a mistake. "
Nothing personal but statements like this always get my goat. Yes, *you* shouldn't have to pay for your customer's mistake but - Yes, *she* should have to pay for *her* mistake!!! That's how life works - you pay for your mistakes. The 'victim' mentality is starting to permeate society - "I didn't mean to do it, it was a mistake, it's not my fault, etc....". I feel like telling these people to grow up and take responsibility for their own actions!!!
You should have 'beamed' her money to her minus the fees you're being charged. (I.e. if she 'beamed' you $100.00 and PayPal charges you $2.50, you should have returned $97.50.)
How would you feel if you had sold a shirt and the buyer wanted to return it because they 'made a mistake' - thought they needed a size 'large' instead of a 'medium'? Would you refund their money *plus* return postage? (Same rationale - they didn't *mean* to do it, it was just a mistake!!!) Maybe you're different but *I* wouldn't!!
(edited to say that I would refund her money but not the postage.)
PayPal has various charges in effect. You might not agree with them - in that case you don't have to use them.

For those folks who are gung ho on Exchangepath (and until yesterday, I was one of them) I just received an email from them that shows there are extremely serious problems with this service. Read about it here and feel free to email or post comments.
