i bid on an item that closed last night, but wasnt the winning bidder. this morning i had an email from the seller asking if i wanted to buy the identical item for the original bid price + s/h. is it okay for the seller to do that since they are willing to sell an identical item for less than the winning bid? im kind of caught in a moral dilemma because it was going to be a christmas present for my daughter.

What dilemma? He has it; you want. Buy it!

Pretty simple.

Sheesh I could be so lucky when I lose out on something I want! I am with twelvepole on this. He has it, you want it, so buy it. Leave Safe Harbor alone to do some more important tasks like getting the deadbeats off the site!

while i agree that this isnt a "big" offense, if you go to the page above, youll see that it states that this is against the rules. this person may not be a deadbeat, but what if he/she was in direct competition with you? what if someone offered the same item you did, but was selling on the side and therefore, no one was bidding on your auction and youre left with fees to pay ebay and no profit to pay it with? would it make a difference to you then?

it would be in my interest to buy the item, but ebays rules are there for a reason. if we want buyers to adhere to our TOS (ie, recent posts on not accepting paypal pymts), shouldnt buyers also be held to ebays rules? are we only supposed to go by the rules when its convienient for us? if thats how it is, then im going to go out and rob a bank because that would make it more convienient for me to pay my bills.

just something to think about...

The reason it is against the rules is because eBay wouldn't make a piece of the action. No FVF, no listing goodies no payment services kickback, er co-branding deal.

Period, end o' discussion.

Buy it if you think the price is right.
Look at the bright side...
You could have outbid the winner and paid even more!!!

I do lot of "after hours" trading esp. when I am there with the email letting the seller know that if the winning bidder is a chump my email a firm offer of purchase.
Plus they see my feedback...as a bidder it's not too shabbilicious.

Dive in the water's nice.

Well I have morals and I know if they offered to sell to me for my losing bid I would buy.

Its not real nice to your high winning bidder to offer to their out bid buyers for less as a seller I would have the moral dilemma and probablly offer all buyers even the winner the lower price.

I’m out there to sell and make all happy as well I might even notify ebay of the no transaction sales and let then decide to charge fees or just thank me for fessing up

Troll post or not this is good advice its Christmas time bidders are looking for stuff they want before the holidays are over make it as easy as you can to get them and they will remember and come back again.

Its like I’m trying to point out here to my ever ageing kids Its not enough for the colander to say its holiday time you too have to change some in order for these times to be happy you must sound act and treat other for holiday spirit to be found.

Tell then put aside they’re petite fighting with each other and enjoy it while they still can learn how.
