Hi - I recently bought a ring that was listed as being 'signed xxxxxx'. ('xxxxx' is a premium jewelry maker.) I paid a significant premium because it was by 'xxxxx'. Well, I get it and it 'looks' like their work but it is not signed. (I have other rings of theirs which *are* all signed.)

The seller is very nice, can't understand how they made a mistake but is more than willing to refund my money. I like the ring but not at the premium price I paid. I'm more than willing to send it back to them (in Europe) so that they can verify that it's not signed but should I offer to buy it at a lower price?

To be honest, I think it *is* by 'xxxxx' but I can't confirm it (I wrote 'xxxxx' but haven't heard back and it's been several days). The seller *might* have obliterated the mark when sizing it (which would have been really dumb). I paid $25 extra to have it sized. Should I ask for a full (including the $25?) refund and just ask them to notify me if they list it again (I was the only original bidder)? What would you do?

Given the discrepancy, I would not take offense, and if I agreed it was worth $25 less, I'd likely send you $25.

The crucial point here is that what was shipped did not match the description, and the seller knows that.

If it did meet the description, or the way it fell short was subjective, I'd offer only a full refund for its return (and I'd predict it not to be returned).

As a seller I have a policy of only doing full refunds because partial refunds tend to get "sticky" (was it really my fault, did the bidder not read, is this buyers remorse?)

However, I am more than willing to work with a buyer if there has been a mistake. Sounds like you already have good communication with the seller, so it couldn't hurt to ask for a partial refund.

If this was listed as signed and you got an unsigned peice its always good to ask you may even have been sent the wrong item.

I see no reason a seller would be offended here at all.

You either got the wrong item or they maybe used an old listing and didnt change wording in this case the item is not as describe.
