I made a mistake by saying a book that had ended at $5.00 was a first edition. I honestly thought so as it said in the book (but it turned out not to be of course). However, when the bidder received it, WITHOUT writing to let me know of my mistake of which I would have refunded her money, she pops me with a negative. I am furious! I admit, it was my mistake. But I dont understand why people can't resolve something via e-mail BEFORE giving a negative. I had perfect feedback over 400 (minus 2 neutrals from back in the days when if someone became unregistered their feedback turned neutral).
I KNEW my first negative was coming someday but this one really ticks me off. Over an item for $5.00 and how I would have refunded if she had wrote me first!! This stinks *sniff*.

I know how you feel. When I got my 1st negative, it was more than 2 months after the transaction. I'd received payment, mailed the item, and thought I was done and happy. Just to find the buyer never received the item, and apparently our ISP's won't communicate. His negative comments included that I didn't respond to emails - they were emails I never received! At the same time he left me the negative, he won about 12 more items of mine... So I used a different email address, we did the transaction with no problems at all, and he left me positives for all 12 items. Now I have a negative on my record, but it doesn't count in my net number, because of the positives from the same user.
Strange - he never asked for a refund or for me to send him a replacement item - I"ve always wondered if maybe it had arrived and he forgot he received it? Because that is still the one and only lost package to the US I've ever had (I had one item that got sent to Canada and had the contents switched, yes SWITCHED.. probably at customs - but that was my first international sale, and I've learned a lot since then).

I too know how you feel. I got my first one a few months ago. I to thought that it was a done deal and everything was fine. No emails wanting a refund or complaining or anything...zilch...then 2 months after the auction...POW!...a neg.
Since it was totally underserved I was pretty upset.
But......life goes on...and it hasn't seemed to have effected my auctions at all. Of course, I left a response, a calm factual, response.
(But is still burned me up!! )

How DARE you misrepresent your item and try to flagrently defraud your bidders with your outlandish display of scammingness! You should be made to swing from the gallows, as should ALL ebay sellers! I bet you even accept paypal! you BAD BAD seller!

Ya know, sometimes I think people just wait to post a neg. If they can find a reason to do so, they will, and sometimes they don't even need a reason. My first neg. came from a guy that never honored his bid. I wrote him several emails and he never responded to any of them. 3 months later, he posted me a neg. saying I would not send him his item. I was upset, as I hadn't given him a neg. for not paying, yet he felt the need to hit me with one.
The only other neg. came from a guy who was not happy with an item. I sell all items "as is" and state this 2 times in my descriptions. Along with "look at the photo and bid accordingly as I don't want anyone to have buyers remorse" Yet then they aren't happy and want a refund. I am not a store, I sell USED merchandise, and I just don't mess around with refunds.
Some people will look for things to complain about, and a reason to mess up a perfect feedback. I just learned not to stress over it.

I dont put in my auctions that I sell items "as is" unless its clothing because I have read about so many buyers remorse when it comes to clothing sales. I dont sell clothing except maybe a few times a year so its not a big concern. However, I state in my "me" page, in my EOA notices and in the letters I include with the items when I mail them that if a bidder has any problems or concerns to please e-mail me and I will work with them. That includes a refund if I am wrong in my listings. I am not perfect but I think I am a good seller and have many many times gone out of my way and at times lost money making sure a bidder is happy with their item and service. Why I considered this negative such a slap in the face.
More than that, now I have become super paranoid about my other items. Is this negative going to bring an outbreak? Will someone else be unhappy with their item and neg me and not keep the lines of communication open? I try to tell myself that the 400+ positives I have before this negative shows what kind of seller I am and that I needn't worry but right now, I admit, I am.
