How much does changing one's eBay name affect sales? I want to change mine to mor fully reflect the type of items I usually sell, but I'm not sure how much those sunshades might scare off potential customers. Most of my buyers are not repeat customers. Currently feedback is approaching 100, all positive.

Most people won't care about the shades since they'll know you just changed your eBay handle. Your feedback will speak for itself.

In the same vein, if onechanges their handle inthemiddle of an auction, and someone has your auctions on watch, will they still be reverted to your auctions under your old name?

Yes, in fact, I believe if they do a search under your old name, it will continue to come up (with your new ID, of course) for 30 days, until the shades disappear.

furkidmom - yes, the old name will still show up in eBay's sytem for 30 days, the same time period during which you have shades. Bidders can bring up your auctions using either your new ID, old ID, or email address until the 30 days are up, and then they can only use your new ID or your email address.

Rainy Bear> Thanks! Dang it. I wanted to change my name because too many of my competitors know me, and whatever I list they go right out and find the same widgets and then undercut me, or get so many and lowball the price, that they are worthless! How about a new ID altogether? Would I have to list a completly different Credit Card Number too? I don't mind starting all over with feedback...would use the new account for the stuff I usually sell and the old account would be for selling something different, a new line of stuff! How do I do that?

You can start fresh with a new account and you can use the same credit card, but you need to use a different email address. I have two accounts, both with different email addresses but billed to the same CC. If you don't mind starting out at zero, go for it!

I tried to open a new account (for buying) with the same credit card / different email. eBay just emailed back to inform me that someone was trying to use my credit card!
I am glad they let me know when my cc number was used...but gee it was only me.
