I have a serious question. Before I get bombarded, let me state that I also use eBay, as well as a few other auction sites.

My question is this:

Why do eBay users complain that eBay sucks and that they want something different, yet when someone else attempts to enter the market, the same people claim that this new company sucks and that eBay is better?

Now, I'm not saying that everybody does this. But for the most part, a lot of people do. If eBay sucks so much, why do you stay there? Why say that other sites suck when you're wanting to leave eBay, yet end up staying there?

Thank you for your time.

Pocono, I am not this lbceo person, or any of the other identities that he might have. I am just a user of various auction sites that is asking an honest question. Now, if you can't answer the question without getting rude about it, then don't say anything at all.

Pocono, do you have anything better to do with your Sunday than to lurk on AW and make rude comments to others?

LURK ???

I happen to think that I am quite public, and not lurking.

HOWEVER, I think that there must be about 599,999 lurkers at LowBid, because how else would you justify your claim of 600,000 users?

Cause it seems like only about 1 person is listing...

What claim? I didn't make any claim like this. I just came here to ask a simple question. Didn't think I'd get the third degree for it.

...yet when someone else attempts to enter the market, the same people claim that this new company sucks and that eBay is better?

That's not true at all. There used to be a Gold's forum here on AW, populated by a number of true believers that posted regularly how it was a great, fun, friendly site, and how it was so much better than eBay. I signed up with them soon after they opened. In the year and a half I had items listed there, I probably sold what I can sell on eBay in two weeks, and I was never able to find any of the items I was looking for to bid on. I'm not surprised that they are gone, although they did last longer than I thought they would.

If eBay sucks so much, why do you stay there?

Well, I don't think eBay "sucks so much", although they obviously do have their problems. I stay there because I am able to buy and sell there.

Why say that other sites suck when you're wanting to leave eBay, yet end up staying there?

Although a lot of sellers may be unhappy with eBay, that does not necessarily mean that they want to leave. Many just want to see eBay improve. And as far as leaving goes- leave to go where? An auction site that has few sellers and fewer buyers is not much of an attraction to either.

Of course it takes time to build something from nothing, but why should sellers, who have heard the "If you build it, the bidders will come" siren song over and over again, believe the next auction site that comes down the pike, singing that same tired song?

Have you really given this question much thought?

We're in a jungle with no other cars to choose from, do we trade in the car with a bad transmission for another car with a an oil leak and needs a new starter, just so we don't have to deal with the transmission problem?
