Two things that you can do to avoid CC chage backs on eBay.
1. Don't use the Billpoint Instant Purchase option.
2. If you aren't comfortable with the high bidder wanting to use Billpoint, tell them you are having trouble getting Billpoint to work & suggest they use BidPay.com to pay. Also offer to reduce the total so that
they don't have to pay a fee from BidPay.
It might reduce your profits by a few $$, but you'll sleep much better knowing that a Western Union MO is on the way that cannot have a Stop Payment put on it.

OOOOOOh, be careful!!! ANY money order can have a STOP PAYMENT issued on it, except for a US postal money order. Every money order, western union included, has an 800 # in the back of the receipt, where you can call to stop payment on the money order. Your only real recourse is to cash the money order at it's source. Don't be fooled thinking money orders are completely safe. They are not.

The story is even worse when you use a third party payment service. And it's abysmal when that service doesn't know (or care) what they're doing. You can read more details at http://www.ygoodman.com/payments.html and find out about your limited rights at http://www.ygoodman.com/credit.html

Kidsfeet ..... Yes, this is true, but in the case of BidPay's Western Union MO's, the only ones that can put a Stop Payment on them, are BidPay reps. They state on their site they will NOT do so. BidPay is the ONLY service that checks not only the CC, but also the buyers/sellers feedback etc.

In fact, the only kind of chargeback proof of delivery is any defense for at all is a chargeback claiming lack of delivery, and even then it's soft if buyer didn't personally sign for the package.
If the buyer claims unauthorized use of the card, or claims to have sent the thing back proof of delivery isn't responsive to buyer's complaint.

Reddeer: There is a thread over at Ebay, where the person stated that their Bidpay money order BOUNCED. Someone else responded that they had also received a m.o. from them that had a stop payment on it. The second person DID indicate that he and the buyer had mutually agreed not to complete the transaction, but that is not the case with the first person.

Kidsfeet ..... Yes, I've read that thread. In the one case, it was quite obvious why BidPay cancelled the MO. In the other, I was not convinced the person knew what the hell they were talking about. I've accepted thousands of $$$ via BidPay & if you read their TOU on their web site, it's quite clear that no matter what the situation, the CC holder will be held responsible, not the seller.
They don't "charge back", and they don't put Stop Payments on MO's.

Does this sound like someone who knows what the hell they're talking about? They aren't even sure if their husband cashed the MO, or not? Hope the IRS doesn't ask to look at their books.
............................................
There are a couple of possible explanations. The paper I have does not really look like a money order. I think that
it is the receipt part of the money order. I really wouldn't know, except that, evidently, BidPay has changed the
form of the money orders they send, and I hadn't had any BidPay payments for quite a while. Since my husband
said that that one piece of paper was the only one in the envelope, then BidPay must either be sending two
letters, one with money order and the other with receipt. In which case my husband likely cashed the money
order, then not realizing it, tried to cash the receipt. The other case is that BidPay only sent the receipt and
someone there cashed the money order.
If Western Union would get back with me and tell me where the money order was cashed and, best, send a copy
of the reverse side, I could tell what case it was. I am assuming the guy at BidPay who said that the money
order had been cashed was telling the truth.

Those comments were posted on Sat, 30 Sep 2000, since then, nothing more from this seller. Hmmmmmmmmm.

I'm with you Reddeer. I thought that explanation was very strange. I read that explanation twice and was still shaking my head.
I don't know if all Western Union money orders look the same but the receipt is a tiny piece of paper compared to the full size money order. How anyone would attempt to cash the receipt is beyond me.

The BidPay receipts are as large as the MO's, but I have no idea how *anyone* could confuse the two? The receipt has the buyers shipping info on it, the eBay item #,the order #, and the amount.
The Mo's, look just like any other MO.
I would think the "Pay To The Order Of" John Doe, [or whomever] would be the first hint it's an MO, or not? If that didn't get their attention, then one would think the 50.00, [or whatever] in the middle of the MO would?
The fact that she never returned to the thread left me with the impression that her husband just bought a couple of bottles, and forgot to tell the Mrs.
