I had an auction end two months ago where the buyer sent me a bad check for $150. I contacted the buyer about this and he seemed very compliant, but now his e-mail is being returned to me and I can't contact him by phone. What steps should I take in order to press charges? I already tried to send a certified letter to an address I had for him but that's been returned. The only other address I have for him is a post office box.

Here in Virginia, we have a service called www.virginiacourtservices.com

They will collect on bad checks at no cost to you. They collect their fees from the check writer. I haven't had to use them yet, but it seems like a pretty cool system.

Otherwise, maybe check with your bank for advice, or maybe contact the local law enforcement in the juridiction where the check was written.

Hope this helps....
