I'd wait until AFTER christmas. Once all the kiddies find out they didn't get the gift they really wanted, parents will really be trying to pick it up.

I'm no expert, but if you wait too long the buyer might not receive it in time for Christmas. If I thought I coulden't get something like that in time for Christmas, I'd wait until the stores got another shipment and buy it from them, even if it were several months wait.

List now and it will end the 14th--just in time for true desperation to set in on all of the parents who have just been informed that no more deliveries will be forthcoming until Jan.
At the latest, I would list this weekend. Gives time to get it there--I agree with the Fed-Ex option and I am assuming you are offering some type of CC payment option...
I would not wait until after Christmas!

A friend of mine just sold one on eBay for a VERY pretty penny, more than doubled his money. As a parent (who wants the Playstation2 for HERSELF) I can say that if I couldn't get it in time for Christmas, I'd just wait until the retail price went down on it a bit. Playstation's competition will be released soon by Nintendo and Microsoft. SELL NOW!!!

Hi superiii,
I would list it in a 3 day auction on ebay right away. Your auction will get hits on the first day and mostly on the last day, everything in between is a waste of time.
Right now if you search for playstation 2 you will get 204 pages with 50 listings per page. People will not dig very deep into these pages. It looks like you will be on the front page for about 20 minutes so you might consider featuring your auction in category. When I sold one it was on the front page for 6 minutes.
I sold one back in October for over $600 + shipping in a 3 day featured in category auction and I started it at $1.
You are only looking at a couple of weeks until Christmas by the time your auction ends. This will give you a comfortable amount of time to receive payment and ship your package.
Happy Holidays

Before you list the PS2 on eBay...
Consider using Amazon instead.
I tried twice to sell on eBay and both auctions were sniped by 0 feedback people who had also bid on several other PS2s. They never paid. Check the completed deals on eBay and you'll see that there is alot of madness going on with the PS2s (the bidders anyway).
I listed on Amazon and sold 2 PS2 systems, both times more than doubling my investment and both times getting immediate "amazon payments" which went smoothly.

After christmas the party is over, and by that time those play stations will be all over the place because people will not speculate with them, also the prices will drop.
How much are you asking for it?

We (the stepson and I) are SERIOUSLY considering selling ours...for the $$ we could get for it, we can actually buy 2 sets!!! Then I can kick his a$$ out of the Living room and get some play time for me!!!

Our local news tonight presented a coverage on the huge Playstation 2 crunch. They showed a VERY long line of people waiting to get into a well-known chain store where a fight actually had to be halted near the entrance. These people are desperate! Alternative sources were mentioned as a means of obtaining...newspaper want-ads and eBay. They showed several auctions, one that just ended at 600.00 or so, interviewing the seller by phone. Seller said there'd been illness in the family..they needed Christmas money. Who knows? Regardless of reason, P.2's are big sellers.
Blockbuster was interviewed, saying they now require a 500.00 deposit to rent one, as people weren't bringing them back. Sounds incredible, but parents were actually slapping down the fat deposit...just to RENT!
They also mentioned the probability of plentiful stock after Christmas and price lowering. Sooooo....if I had one, I'd sell. Do try and protect yourself as much as possible. Good advice has been posted above. Good luck to you...hope you get a bundle!
My two grandsons will each be getting one. Their parents were smart to buy early. (smiling...no little yellow faces...oops)

My two cents .... use the BUY IT NOW feature. It seems like a pretty hot item to have for Christmas. I'm sure if someone wants it that badly, they will pay a pretty penny for it.

I finally broke down and got one on eBay for my husband, who had made it subtly clear that he would be horrenously disappointed if he didn't find one under the tree on Christmas morning. At 34, he's too old to learn any lessons about frugality and patience and so on, so I just gave up and looked for one on eBay.
The previous poster is right -- there are 20 pages of Playstations for sale (ending almost literally every minute) and it's hard, as a buyer, to pinpoint one to bid on.
So I used a few criteria to narrow down my choices:
1. Sellers with good feedback. It seems like 80% of the sellers listing P2s have fb ratings of 5 or less. Uh-uh, no way -- I'm not risking my precious little husband's Christmas morning dream on a potentially flaky seller.
2. NO RESERVE! That way, I could at least FANTASIZE about getting one for less than $500. I actually ended up paying around $530.
3. Billpoint or PayPal.
4. Some indication that the seller understood that the buyer would want to receive the item by Christmas and would do his or her best to get the transaction finished quickly and professionally.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

I agree with what's been posted here. I currently have a PS2 up for sale and put it in for 7 days - I think with the amount of and popularity of these items a 3 day auction would suffice.
Also to make me stand out from the rest I offer free gift wrapping and shipping to hopefully appeal to those last minute shoppers or rich moms or dads who don't know how to wrap a present. I'm sure I'll make enough profit from this not to worry about the freebies.

LOL, that's too funny! He sounds just like my husband. You don't have any kids, do you? We don't either, so hubby gets to be the Big Kid. Let me tell you, though, they are trainable. My husband is 35 and during our three years of marriage I've actually been able to instill some frugality in the guy. He knows we're not going to have a PS2 under the tree on Christmas morning, but he's happy to settle for a bunch of model train stuff.

If you check the completed EBAY auctions for Playstation2---you will see that quite a few of them were won by bidders who have no intention of paying---just to mess up the auction.
So don't wait too long incase you get some of those bidders attacking your auction---then you will have a chance to list again.
Tell the buyer payment must arrive in 3 days

Just sold ours last week for $520 with BIN - sold the first day listed.
There are lots of - FB buyers and sellers. We put a line in our stating that b/cuz of the fraudulent bidders/sellers we reserved the right to cancel any bids. I know we could anyway but we hoped this steered them away in the first place. We received a cashiers check within days and the PS2 is on its way with a guaranteed delivery date.
Good luck to you -
