If they want to make some money, they should contact Eveready- that painting could beat the pants off the Energizer bunny.

edited to add...

Or maybe Timex- Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

I guess this means that maybe someone thought our life in AW was getting too complacent?

I'm reminded of a cartoon I saw once, where a character says incredulously, "Dis bit jus' don' quit!"

He/she/they certainly are persistent...

Me too with the email. Between politics and Van Gogh there should be a lot of reading.

As I posted in the "apology" thread:

I've posted on the site's chatboard that anybody can contact me with the URL of the AW thread. I'm sure my message is going to be deleted as soon as an op sees it, so anybody with a free minute who wants to sign up over at OAS (with, say, an anonymous hotmail/yahoo address, so you won't get hatemail or spam) and point folks on the chatboard to this AW thread or the original one might be doing some good.

Hi heygrape

In order to receive Email Notification of new posts to the thread, you have to make at least one post (and if it's blank, we're likely to delete it ).

So when someone posts "email on", they are simply ensuring they don't miss anything (including posts that are later edited).

HCQ, and now we're going to get Ramona upset with all this painting talk, tsk, tsk! What a thing for a girl to endure, this close to Christmas I notice the piece isn't up for auction, it's the old "email us for details", translated "we're fishing for a live one" Bah! Humbug!

With the colder weather, Ramona got a new blankie this week and is enjoying hot cinnamon-raisin oatmeal for breakfast. So I suspect she's not going to care I, OTOH, am without a sewing machine for the next couple weeks and am stuck in bed AGAIN, so I need something to entertain me

indicate that it is up again. Thanks so much.

Dear Auction Watch Users,
I received notification from Hart Cottage Quilts that they would be posting information about "Yellow Roses" on this chat board. I have read and reviewed the posts in both the new thread and the old thread.

It is our business what we choose to list on our website. Currently, the painting is not for auction at Old And Sold. It is only posted for informational purposes. We are not selling the painting. Notice that there is no price on the painting and no agreements of how to purchase. As a website, we have the freedom to list whatever we like on our front page. If you do not like what we list on our front page, please do not visit the site.

We are a small auction site. Most of our items that we list are between $5 and $500. Notice, everything is free on our site. No listing fees. No final valuation fees. We collect no money from any of our sellers or buyers. We are in no position to defraud any of users.

We have choosen to list this painting on the front page for certain reasons. While I realize this will cause a stir on this chat board, I do not think our site can be dictated by a couple of individuals on a chat board. We do have valid reasons for listing this painting. We do not need to make these reasons public.

Please do not visit Old And Sold if your only purpose is to post negative comments on the chat cafe. The chat cafe is for people looking for information on their antiques. It is not a place to debate if Old And Sold is trying to defraud the public.

Feel free to contact me at the information email at Old And Sold. I will try to answer any questions. These will be my final comments on this chat board.

Regards,
Old And Sold Antiques Auction

I can't believe that painting is being "offered" again. Amazing. I looked at the x-ray view and I'm pretty sure I can see Elvis. Why wouldn't they mention that in with all the other info???

Ok, just one simple thought Oldandsold.. if this is up for informational purposes only than maybe it should not be listed under Featured Auctions. This is just a thought, as I'd hate to see your auction site give the wrong impression about anything.

. We are not selling the painting. We do have valid reasons for listing this painting. We do not need to make these reasons public.

Hmm, let me suggest one. Seller is trying to cinch a deal offline with some poor sap. In order to afford the painting some sort of perception of legitimacy, he bullies OAS into listing it. And I'm sure OAS is doing this out of the goodness of its heart, and has no pecuniary interest.

But I guess we'll never know, will we. I chatted with my FBI friend again today, so they know OAS is touting this thing again.

OldandSold states
"The chat cafe is for people looking for information on their antiques. It is not a place to debate if Old And Sold is trying to defraud the public."

- Evidently information is now defined to exclude which antiques are fraudulent. It seems they are quite explicitly abandoning any pretense of ethics.

Newspeak lives.

Well maybe in addition to being an Auction site(with many fine seller and buyer friendly features, I might add.), they are also a public service site.

Could the painting be featured for the elucidation and edification of net-surfing art scholars, perhaps?

Or maybe they've got one on the hook and the painting's presence on the site adds some air of legitimacy. Hmmmmmmm..........?

I don't get it. You mean every thread I post to I should be receiving emails if someone else posts?

heygrape ~ Only if you mark it that you want too. Look below the text area, where you put your comments. You'll see two checkmark boxes. The first one is "email notification: emails sent to you whenever someone replies". Checkmark that box, and you will receive an email of every post thereafter on that thread. (you can discontinue the email notification at any time through the email). If you do this just one time per thread, you can keep up with anything anyone says. It's not necessary to do for each post.. unless you've accidentally turned off the email notification.

OldAndSold, sounding a tad petulant in your post? Stir it up and see who bites? Not exactly a brilliant marketing ploy if you're trying to save your site................
