I have 2 questions related to the Buy it Now (BIN) feature. If anyone knows the answer or has encountered a similar situation, I would appreciate your input.

As you should know, if you bid on an auction where there is a BIN price, the BIN option goes away and it becomes a regular auction. My questions are:

1) What happens if the first bid is withdrawn? Does the BIN price comes back on?

2) If it does, is "ethical" or even "legal" as a buyer to withdraw your bid and then use the BIN?

Thanks!

I had a similar situation:

Bidder placed BIN bids on 2 of my auctions & meant to do the same on a third, but placed a regular bid & asked me what to do. I cancelled her bid, which restored the BIN price & option & she was able to use BIN.

(I figured that if the BIN option was not restored I could always cancel the auction, but I didn't have to.) Not sure what happens if the bidder retracts, though...

If the bid is retracted by the bidder the Buy it Now Feature reappears.

Thank you both for your answers. Now I know how it works on the technical side (the first question).

Since the BIN price comes back after a bid withdrawal, what do you think as a seller, if a buyer withdraws his bid in order to Buy it Now?

For myself, as a seller, I think it would be fair, since when I use a BIN price, I accept it as a fair price to sell. But now, as a buyer, do you think you should contact the seller first? Is it allowed by eBay?

I bid on an item....and then saw that the same seller has BIN on other auctions of the same thing, for the opening bid price, but not on the auction I bid on.

Well, I cancelled my bid (first time ever for me!) and did the buy it now on another of her auctions for the same thing. In the explanation for the bid cancellation, I stated the above. She emailed me, and said, not a big deal.

That's kind of similar to what you are asking.

Karen

PS I got the item before the first auction would have ended, and its a Xmas gift, so I'm glad.
