I'm sorry

I am still in delirium over my wonderful auctions this evening.

Someone sniped one at 3 seconds left.

How do people learn to do that? I've never been good at it so I bid when I can and if I dont win oh well.

How do people learn to do that?

It is incredibly simple. Get a digital clock and synchronize it with eBay time. Log in at eBay and from the listing page, make a note of the auction ending time (hour, minute and second). Enter your maximum bid and click the "Review Bid" button. Once you're on the bid confirmation page, watch your clock, and when it's around 4 or 5 seconds from the end of the auction, click the "Place Bid" button. You can wait even longer, depending on your connection speed and willingness to possibly miss out on getting the bid in, but in almost every case, it isn't necessary to cut it that close. That's all there is to it.

Be not sad dear Libbyparsons for i too have been sniped. tis better though to snipe than to be sniped, and find some joy in knowing that over 10% of snipers do not pay. they seem to find satisfaction somehow in doing this as a "thrill"...merry x-mas to all

Yup...I have my "Mr. Clock" all ready, all synched with Ebay...Open 2 windows, one to refresh, the other ready with my max and ID...At the right moment, click "submit"...If you click at about 4 secs left, by the time bid is recorded you will find you got the auction with ONE SECOND to spare... Forget E-Snipe or any software...Do it the real way...with the strong heart beats, the sweat pouring down your neck, the shortness of breath....

There's really no need for any special timers or anything. It does help to have within your view a watch or clock with a sweep second hand.

-Access target auction 5 minutes or so before close.
-Refresh screen through a few cycles and determine average refresh time. This time will be your buffer. You can add a second or two for a safety margin.
-Enter Bid and proceed to next page.
-Hit "Place Bid" at O minus buffer time and you're good to go.

shosh-

the other ready with my max and ID...

You might want to consider signing in first- that way, you don't have to enter your id and password. I used to do like you said, until one day, I typed my password wrong (and you can't tell, since it only shows up as ****), and missed making my bid. Bummer.

I usually keep two windows open and sized down to where I can view them both.

In one window I monitor the closing time of the item. In the second window I already have my final bid typed in (the max I would want to go), and the submit button centered in the window.

In the closing minute, I continually refresh the monitoring window and quickly put the cursor over the submit button in bid window.

If someone snipes, I'm ready to fire my final salvo within a fraction of a second, and from that point it's in the hands of the servers as to whether or not it takes in time.

Hehehe

Thanks for laughs yall! As I buyer I really never tried this, I put my bid in 5 mins or so before close and usually am the victim. Will try these suggestions.

As a seller I love the snipers. Best one ever was a stamp that was bid at $215. two minutes to close. POOF $800.! Benny bout stained his pants.

It's almost as much fun to WATCH a snipe as it is to do one. Last summer, I had a set of books up for auction that two bidders were both desperate to have. I ended up gathering the whole family around the computer as I continually hit the "refresh" button and watched that price jump each time during the last couple of minutes. Whew! What fun!

I'm not a real expert at doing the absolute last-second sniping, but have gotten good enough at the lesser version that I generally win the item within the last 30-45 seconds. I only bother to do this with stuff I REALLY want...my blood pressure really does not need the additional strain for everyday stuff.
