International Rates will increase on January 7 along with the domestic rate increases. There will be particularly large increases in the cost of shipping books internationally since almost no one will be able to use the book and sheet music rate anymore. This is because the book and sheet music rate will only be available for volume mailings of 50 pounds or 200 pieces of mail sent at the same time and presorted by country.

I am looking in the section Economy Mail Letter Post Single Piece and see rates like
Canada UK Australia
1 lb (16 oz) 2.70 3.80 4.05
2 lb (32 oz) 5.60 6.30 6.65
3 lb (48 oz) 7.20 8.70 9.05

[Currently for a 2 pound book the surface shipping charge to most places is $3.97]

Look at the following URL for complete information (this is the Federal Register site: I haven't found it on the Post Office site):

Good news for users of Global Priority mailers......

I don't see any increase in $$$$ nor any change to the 4 pound weight limit.

I guess the mailers are still free

Para 141.4 describes the conditions these are sent.
Two lines at the bottom of page 77079 give the rates.

grobe Thanks for the URL

I've bounced the other thread on this matter up and posted the URL there too.

Thanks for the link and info.

Looks to me that small packet air is now (letter-post) airmail.

Surface mail is now called economy.

A basic first class letter from US to Canada goes from $0.48 to $0.60

Some 'small packet' airmail rates (there are intermediate rates) to Canada:-

16oz - $ 3.75
32oz - $ 6.35
48oz - $ 8.95
640z - $11.75

Qualifying sizes and weights appear unchanged.
