Long time passing....

Now every body sing,
Okay maybe not.
I have not had a bid in over a week. I got new stuff, good stuff and I just can't figure out what the problem could be. It is the same kind of stuff I usually get good bids on.
I can't even get bids on my paintings and they always sell.
I think I am about to take a break until the new year.

Must be what you are selling. I've been doing pretty well myself. Especially the BIN auctions.

Hello Tegan,

What kinds of items are you listing? And have you taken into account that folks will want prompt after auction service because of the proximity to the holidays?

I can sympathize with you. I have not had any bids on my cookie cutters of late. I'm beginning to think that if I want to sell cutters on eBay I will have to make more intricate and original designs to tap into the "collectors" market. The cutters I am currently listing are really quite utilitarian and it is hard to compete with the discount retailers all over the country.

I sell folk art mostly and some collectable toys and other odds and ends. I sell folk art paintings that I do myself. All of which have been great sellers all year with a slight dip in July and a big body slam in August.
It had been getting better every week since Sept. 1st and then has been going downhill again since the last week in November. Now it has all but died.
I tried the BIN and sold one with it last week but nothing at all this week.
I even went back and put BIN on all my auctions...nothing.
If it weren't for the commisions I get for paintings I would be looking for a new day job right now.

with apologies to music fans who liked "Where have all the cowboys gone"

I haunt all the thrift shops and all the estate sales
looking for things to resell.
I find lots of widgets at a really discount price
and I know that I'll do real well.
I start them around half price
without a high reserve
where are the lucky buyers?
where are the page views?
where is financial security?
where have all the bidders gone?

It didn't sell the first time, I'm just a bit surprised
but I'm not ready to give up yet
I start them around half price and dont use a reserve
they'll sell this time around I'll just bet
not a single nibble
no one seems to care
where are the bargain seekers?
where did the mavens go?
where is my mortgage payment?
where have all the bidders gone?

I start it at a dollar, I dont use a reserve
and once again I hit relist
finally get one bidder and that is where it ends
he wants to use Paypal so I'm pissed
I dont want to sign up
it's not in my TOS
where is my handsome profit?
where's my last second snipe?
where is my happy ending?
where have all the bidders gone?

Where have the bidders gone?

Well, I just got my first heating bill. About double of last year. And we haven't even had the really cold weather yet.

Changing my budget as we speak. Bidding on my cherished collection items is kind of frivilous in the face of utility bills.

Lucy: I hear you. We haven't received our heating bill yet but we did get our electric. It was $20 more than last month. We haven't used any more electricity than normal (maybe even less). I am seriously dreading the heating bills arrival.

I have taken a break from selling until after the holidays. Things have been tepid for the past couple of months. Getting bids but nothing spectacular. I have also cut back on my bidding for awhile.

edited because I had put "your" heating bill instead of "our". Paying mine is enough without paying someone elses.

Walmart?
Nope.
Press release today says that they missed their sales forecast for the 2nd week in a row.

I find this time of year most bidders are more tight fisted than usual and not as apt to bid on something that they don't really need. Especially over the holidays where most people are out Chritmas/Hanukkah shopping and are spending their hard earned money on gifts and not impulse items that they don't really need. I think they're looking for gift items at this time more than items for themselves so I will keep all digits crossed that things will improve after the holidays. Of course with priority mail rates increasing to a ridiculous high, I have a feeling that a lot of bidders are going to be more choosey than ever before, before they dish out high priority rates. Of course there are certain widgets and shipping material that people are always bidding on.

Try the BIN for higher priced items as they seem to work great, less than 20 hours.

Faster turnaround.

Just wait till the shipping hike. Alot of dotcoms are packing up, and moving to malls and shopping centers.

Not tightfisted!!! I could spend-spend-spend. In fact I do spend-spend-spend. On higher gasoline cost, higher heating fuel, higher cost for everything.

But did my wage go higher - nope. I work in retail, part of my wage is dependent on commission. Spending down, my wage is down.

Now postage is taking a hike. More of my bidding dollars going to higher cost.

Got to meet living expenses before we can spend on collecting.

And I have a brand new granddaughter!! Got to indulge myself on a few ruffles for her. Have had only grandsons, which are great, but need some pink ruffles for a change.

Scarey thing is, I've been selling as many items on Yanhoo as eBay, a first for me. Up until now, I pretty much considered Yahoo a buyers market (for resale). But all in all, there's not a lot of fighting over items as per normal. But who ever said cyberspace was normal...
