i mailed an uninsured package the bidder says she has not received it. she is emailing me from a different name than the winning name and said the wrong size and amout? i have asked her to check her post office and i did the same. the item did sell for $58.00. i paid for uninsuereed postage. i have not heard from her in a few days. if she does not get it do i refund? refund half. this has not happened before i have sold a little over 100 items and have not had a problem yet. how do i know she is telling the truth?
thanks for any advice!

Okay put yourself in her shoes and that would give the answer as what to do.

I always give the customer benefit of the doubt.I always refund on missing items whether insured or not.

Before I did anything else, I would double check with the buyer to be sure we are talking about the same item. From your post, it sounds as if it's a different item and a different price...and the buyer wrote to you from a different email addy. This could mean a simple mixup on the buyer's part, rather than anything more nefarious.

Imabrit---does that go for my missing package too??? Delivery Confirmation says it arrived at the address---buyer says it hasn't.

The post office confirmed with me today that Postal Insurance would not have covered this item if they show it as delivered.

sleepo---that might be an interesting scam---claim to be the buyer but with a different email address and claim the package was missing

sleepo: Before I did anything, I would forward the e-mail to the original e-mail and ask them to confirm they are this person.

After that, I agree with imabrit in that you have to decide what you would want to have happen if you were the buyer. I have only had one non-insured package go astray in my few years of selling. I normally sell one-of-a-kind items but I had a duplicate that I sent to the buyer at no additional charge.

For what it's worth, I automatically insure any item over $50. I figure that I could eat the under $50 items if it became necessary. Most items that I think will go for over $50 I just add the insurance to my TOS and they know it will be insured when they are bidding on it.
