I have heard that paper can be ironed to smooth out soft creases. Does anyone know how to do this? Can paper be smoothed out by putting weight on it?

Irene. I read the thread - good info and some fun posts - made me smile! Did you try on an ironing board? The cover I have on my board has padding - should I try something harder under the cover - Oh and I probably need a new cover cause I use sizing when I iron!!!! I guess I'll try though. Did you try covering the paper with cloth or other paper and did you use any dampness or steam? Thanks again.

Mommoo: I don't remember too much about my attempts - just that nothing caught fire. I did use an ironing board and I remember I tried using both a dry cloth and a slightly damp cloth.
Irene
Edited to add - First I experimented on paper which didn't matter.

I have been ironing wrinkles and creases out of paper for years!
MOST types of paper can successfully be ironed using the following procedure:
Set your iron on STEAM.
Place a large hardcover book (without jacket) on an ironing board (or table).
Place a piece of white paper on top of the book.
Lay the paper to be ironed on top of that.
Now put another piece of white paper on top of that, and make sure the top piece is folded in 2, to make sure there's added protection against the iron.
Press firmly and slowly move the hot iron across the paper, not hesitating for too long at any point.
This works like a charm.
Remember: STEAM is essential to this.
NOTE: If you are ironing newer, magazine-type glossy paper, be VERY CAREFUL. Set iron to a lower heat setting and maybe use a cloth instead of paper as a buffer.
