From Weather.com:
A storm center pushing toward the lower Ohio Valley is unleashing a wicked mix of snow, sleet, ice and rain from the eastern portions of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas into the lower Midwest and mid-South. The hardest hit areas so far have been the southern Plains and eastern Texas where significant accumulations of sleet and ice have occurred, and southern Missouri where up to a foot of snow has piled up. Springfield, Mo., has been buried by 12.8 inches, a record 24-hour snowfall for Decmeber... and it's still snowing hard. Additional significant icing is likely today from northeastern Texas across Arkansas into western Tennessee. Little Rock, Ark., and Memphis, Tenn., are prime targets for this dangerous ice accretion. Farther to the north, heavy snow is expected to continue across southern Missouri with total accumulations of up to a foot and a half. A band of 6 to 9 inches is forecast over southern Illinois into central Indiana. Lighter snowfall is likely from far northern Missouri into the lower Great Lakes with 2 to 4 inches on tap. Kansas City, Chicago and Detroit are in line for this lighter snowfall. This entire wintry assualt will sweep into the Northeast later this evening and tonight with snow and ice developing in and near the big cities. The mix, however, should change over to rain in the Megalopolis tomorrow, although ice and sleet could hang on in the northern and western suburbs. The precipitation should end during the morning in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, and during the afternoon in Boston. In the Far West, heavy snow is likely in the Sierras late today and overnight with a foot or more forecast above 7000 feet. Some light freezing rain and snow has been falling in the Portland, Ore., area this morning, but temperatures should creep above freezing this afternoon.
My area of Ohio is calling for 4-6 inches by morning. As of 1:45 p.m. there is no snow falling yet.

It's been snowing here in Central Illinois since 9am this morning with no signs of letting up. We were supposed to be getting 4-6 inches and they've up it now to 6-10.
I mailed some USPS packages off yesterday but I haven't been able to get to UPS since last friday.

We got a crippling 8 inches last night and this morning. Most of the city is shut down. I didn't go to work today, but I did make it to the post office with my packages and it was quite a treat to not have to wait in line for a change!

We got 7-8 inches in Lincoln Sunday into Monday. We were supposed to get a "light dusting" this morning, but its been snowing very steadily and sometimes very HARD all day so far. I took a half-day from work Monday, but have managed so far to get my stuff to the PO every day either myself or via my fiance. Fortunately, the PO is on my way home, so since I have to go that way ANYWAY, its only a slight detour for me to stop at the PO and get my packages out. I really want as many as possible to have a chance to get there before Christmas, although only a couple of buyers have asked for priority to HOPEFULLY ensure they get there in time.

i live 20 minutes north of little rock and its been sleeting since about 9 pm last night. it was pretty steady until about 4 hours ago, but has tapered off some and it looks like its going to stop altogether soon. the bad thing is that it'll be in the 20s tonight (its only about 30 now) and what little might melt will freeze again. most of our town shut down, and even though its supposed to get near 40 tomorrow, the kids will probably be out of school another day since it will take several hours for it the roads to thaw out some.
i thought i left all this behind when i moved from pennsylvania...

It started snowing lightly in NE Ohio (on the shore of lovely Lake Erie!) about 2:30 just as I was coming out of a Goodwill store!
Three hours later the snow is heavier and still coming down. The last big storm missed us but I guess we won't be so lucky this time!

I live in PA, about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh. They are calling for us to receive 1-3 inches of snow BEFORE midnight and then it changes to ice overnight. Well, I have to laugh because it's almost 8:00pm and it's bone dry outside!
Of course I am not complaining after hearing about all the snow you poor folks have received. You have my sympathy. And who knows, I may be in your shoes by morning!
