FLD was Dec 21 last year.

A quick check of the ebay listing tracker shows that listings hit a high of 6.3 million at the first of the month, followed their normal cycle between the 3rd and the 10th (hitting a friday high of 6.1 million) - and have been dropping like a rock ever since. They are currently down to about 4.8 million and likely to go much lower.

This is the same behavior that occured last year. As we approach christmas, people stop listing. Perhaps they are busy with the holidays, or perhaps they figure that auctions ending around christmas will do poorly. Whatever it is, eBay doesn't like it, since the number of listed items is an important indicator for them.

It is quite likely (imho) that there will be another FLD very soon, perhaps sometime in the middle of next week. I could be wrong, but it can't hurt to have some listings ready to go. Last year, post-FLD sales were very good.

Every years Ebay has a free listing year for the holidays. Everyone knows that are at least most sellers. So many just wait to list until then. This is nothing new it isn't any big realization or secret etc. . .

Now the surprise will be the year Ebay stops doing it since most expect it.

Question: how much advance notice did you get in years past? Did the announcement pop up the day before, or any earlier?

I am certainly not listing right now, but I would list as much as I could if it was free listing time.

I think they announce it the night before. You have to keep checking the announcements board otherwise you may miss it!

I don't seem to recall one last year. The year before was around the 4th of July as well as Christmas. I wouldn't be holding my breathe.

Yes, free listing day is only announced the hours before the date.

If anyone does see the announcement, I would appreciate it you would start a new AW thread showing the date in the title.

And it would be really fantastic if there were actually buyers (bidders)to go along with all those free listings.

The last couple of times I recall a huge glut of free listings, but not a huge increase in completed auctions.

They (eBay) must be very pleased at the way the pack responds when they throw a bone...

last year I put in an extra 160 auctions on the free day. About 2/3 of them got bids. I would not expect that many this year because my rate is way down on my regular auctions.

IN anotgher thread most seem to be guessing this Wenesday. If they do it again this year most likely it will be before New Years day and I would guess as not to over tax their servers to much not on a weekend but one never know. I have been getting some ready I haven't about 200 to go. If they don't have it I have all that work done. So either way I win : )
