I'm sick and tired of people asking the entire year for free listing day, I hope this kind of threads end tomorrow or after tomorrow. This is cheap, how much can you save? I don't want to hear lies, or stories I really how much are you thinking you are going to save? FREE LISTING DAY is for those cheap sellers who wait the entire year to $ca m people. Free listing day is GOOD, but only for those power sellers who advertise by hundreds otherwise is a waste of time to wait the entire year only to save $10 bucks that's ridiculous and doesn't make a sense a bit.

I don't read those threads, but interferes when I'm trying to read the titles of other threads. Free listing day? WOW what a saving! People usually post a few listings when there's a charge, but tomorrow people will post by tons, they will not stop the entire day posting, SO EXPECT TO COMPETE WITH A FEW MORE MILLIONS. Did you wait the entire year for this? If you think you are going to save, ok. Personally I'm not planning to waste my time for this.

If you're a high enough volume seller and you prepare properly all year you can save a couple of thousand dollars in listing fees very easily.

For someone who is sick of all the free listing day threads, you just started one which interferes with all the others and you posted to it multiple times. Am I the only one seeing the irony here.

I don't think anyone could save "thousands". I have seen the power sellers, and it is very rare for anyone to have over 1,000 items posted at a time. That would just be a savings of $250, not thousands.
Most people will wind up saving maybe $100 and most even less.

And I thought I had a low confusion/annoyance threshold; although with me it's THREAD TITLES IN ALL CAPS.
I do agree, however, that FLD's are a massive waste of time.
Say I generally list 20 items a week. Hey, FREE DAY! So I list 100 items for free, "saving" anywhere from $25 to $200...except that nearly everybody else in the ebay universe is doing exactly the same thing, massively flooding the pool of items at auction and proprtionately depressing the potential high bids, assuming of course one gets any bids at all. This is what I believe we call being "penny-wise, pound-foolish" and "wasting time". What if ebay instead announced that all summerm items, from flip-flops to air-conditioners, could be listed tomorrow for free? Sigh. I can just see the stampede of sellers....all wondering where on earth the bidders are and whether this is an indication we're headed for a recession.
As to those previously-unsold items, I can relist them for free anytime. If a widget didn't do too well in a "normal" pool of competing merchandise, why on earth would I force it to join the throngs of widgets up for auction during Free Listing hysteria?

At 25 cents an auction (and in some cases 50 cents), listing 4,000 auctions is a savings of $1,000. I am, as I said, well prepared for FLD.

I should also clarify; I've participated in two previous free listing days, both of which were well worth it. This time, unlike last year, I am able to list much, much more than I was those times. As always, it depends what you sell and on a lot of other things.

JAMES: Wow! You must have a big staff to help with shipping. At least 70% of my items sell first time around so I never have over 200 out at any given time. How do you do it?
posted on December 20, 2000 11:52:35 AM new
I have about 200 items that didn't sell before and are on the "Send to Goodwill" shelves.
The auctions are already written and stored in my auction software, the pictures are already taken and stored on my computer. It will take me about 1 hour of work to make sure everything is ready to go and then with a couple of clicks all the pictures will be uploaded at once and the auctions launched.
I'm guessing that I'll only sell about 15% of the items, but what have I got to lose?
FREE LISTING DAY is for those cheap sellers who wait the entire year to $ca m people.

The shipping? No, just me.
It's a headache that I fully am expecting after these end. *sick just thinking about it*
I don't expect more than 10-25% (probably closer to 15%) to sell though, as these are all items I've put on previously, and obviously ebay is going to be so deluged with things, that I have lower expectations overall. Managing these auctions should be interesting.

One more thing; I realize I make it sound simple. All my items are flat, I know exactly what postage is for everything, have all my packing materials. Obviously for folks who sell many different types of things of all shapes and sizes it's an entirely different ballgame.

Free listing worked a couple years ago, BUT NOW you will compete with millions and millions of listings if you are lucky you will get a few bids, so don't assume that you are saving. You could post 5 thousand or 50 thousand listing it doesn't mean that you are saving. Free listing day only means more work for free, I prefer to lose $100 bucks than wasting my time one entire day believing I'm saving in every listing I'm posting. But if you still believe you are saving that's ok. If ebay want to really give us a gift they should give us 1 featured listing X member and it should be divided in 2 different occasions so you decide which is the one you want to use and REALLY SAVE AND MAKE MONEY. But I can image now from 6 millions auctions to 25 million AT LEAST. Use your common sense the intention of eBay is good, but it should be divided in 2, 3 0 4 different occasions and each seller should have only 1 chance a year, so everybody can be happy. The seller, the bidder and eBay itself.

Tuberculoso:
I think you should just speak for yourself, not for everyone else. I, for one, have already listed over 300+ items which has saved me a few hundred dollars already. And, within my first hour that I started listing, I had 2 people "BUY NOW" on 2 of my auctions. And, my auctions are already receiving bids. And no, I am not out to "SCAM" anyone, thank you very much!

Of course ebay isn't really "rewarding" us. That much is obvious. But to say it again, for some people, depending upon what you sell, it is wonderful. If you're not one of them, so don't list and enjoy your ebay-free day!

Ah..bah humbug to you too Scrooge-Tuberculoso!
As the old saying goes...a penny saved is a penny earned. Whatever I save on listings today is just that much more I can use to reinvest into more inventory. Or that much more that goes into my savings account.
Listings are down significantly right now...as it normally is this time of the year...so new listings today, even a slew of them, probably won't increase the number of listings much above normal. This means the competition is no worse than it is any other time of the year.
But what is more likely is that the number of items listed, even with the free listings, will be less than normal, so there will be less competition equating into more bids. This has been my experience with free listing days...sales are stronger.
So Scrooge-Tuberculosa...may you see the error of your rant...and a Merry Christmas to you too!
