I stopped by the PO to check my mailbox, and three delivery trucks left the parking lot ... they ARE delivering Priority Mail today in this city.

So there is still hope for some packages.

I just got a package too!--from my little brother in Alaska all the way to Texas. PLUS the mailman wished me a Merry Christmas! That mailman will never know what it meant to hear that--since this is a tough Christmas for us.

I have NOTHING but kudos for our local office this Holiday season!!!

Saturday afternoon, I looked across the street to see a PO Jeep backed up onto a pile of snow(2 hours after we had recieved our mail)...I went over with a shovel to help out, and the Postman said "This is all your fault Keith...I came back to give you a check"....
After we (the neighbors and I ) got him free of the snow,..he delivered only ONE envelope..to me...

And SUNDAY morning at 9:30 I got a call from the PO office to let me know I had a package waiting...they wanted to let me know that they were NOT delivering, but that the office would be open until 11am.

I have to add, that I am NOT listed in the phone directory, and the ONLY reason the PO clerk knew where I lived was because of who I am living with....

We ALL give the USPS grief, but since when have we thanked 'em????

Have a safe and Happy HOLIDAY to ALL the overworked USPS (and UPS) folks who have worked SO hard to get stuff to where it should be!!!
I assume full responsibility for my actions, except
the ones that are someone else's fault.

It is the 25th and I just received a Express Mail package from Hong Kong delivered by United States Postal Service.

I asked the delivery man what does it take to work on Christmas day and he said $60.00/hour.

This is the reason why everything I ship is via USPS; reliable, cheap, and they deliver on holidays!

Plus the fact that I use stamps.com is a big help too, can't do that with UPS or FedEx. Both of them lost my business the moment they refused to give me software for preparing packages because they felt my business was too small. Bye Bye!

jake

P.S. I spend over $400 this month on USPS Priority Packages, oh and the boxes/tape/stickers were "FREE"

I for one think it's sad that people WORK on the holiest of days! Has commercialism totally taken over our country? I would be just has happy to get a package on the 26th. I told my mail person that a few years ago when she delivered Oranges on the 25th, I told her she should be at home celebrating with her family. How Sad

I TOTALLY agree with you. If one goes to another thread you will hear everyone crying and complaining that their customers were harassing them because of packages which the USPS HADN'T delivered. Otherwise, probably nice people became insane over the past week over items which, although shipped on time, didn't arrive as scheduled, due to the tardiness of the USPS, and since there was no one else to scream at, they took their disappointment and hostilities out on the seller.

THIS is what commercialism has done to this holy day - it is disgusting and so VERY SAD. Everyone so excited about getting some widget, or not getting some widget, when this day is to remember and praise our Lord and Savior, and should have nothing to do about some mere human getting some trite remembrance.

A lost gift shouldn't be that big an issue on this holy day, not even to a child, if the child isn't reared with the wrong emphasis on the day!

This is Christ Day; not your birthday or mine, but a day to remember, praise, and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ - the GREATEST GIFT ANYONE COULD RECEIVE!

Some people aren't Christian though, so it technically isn't a holy day for them, so they welcome the opportunity to work. I'm not Jewish, but I was told that Hanukah used to not contain gifts, but there were issues with the Jewish kids and their Christian friends at Christmas time, so gifts were introduced as a part of the Jewish holiday.

I just wish that UPS had delivered the rest of my husbands gift on time. 2nd day air my...The frustrating part is that it's in the city, it just hasn't been delivered. *sigh* I'm peeved, but not mad. This just makes my husband sit in anticipation for a few more days.

Please remember that Christianity is NOT the only religion. Some of us are members of another religion, or are not religious, so this is just another day to us.

Flynn and jwpc -
You are assuming that the entire population of the USA is your brand of Christian. To a substantial percentage of the population, this is December 25, with nothing holy about it.

The deliveries yesterday and today are being done by volunteers, many of them non-Christians. If I were Jewish, Muslim, or pagan, why should I pass up the opportunity to make $60 an hour delivering packages (and collecting cookie plates, fudge plates and other consumables) and making others REALLY HAPPY?

Exactly, do not FORGET this nation has MANY religions and not everyone is celebrating today. It is VERY WRONG to complain that "people are working on this holy day".

Crap like that causes wars to break out all over the world. I think recognition and tolerance is needed and 90% of our religious issues would be taken care of. Some religious organization preach hatred for other human beings because they do not worhip/celebrate the same God/Gods/Holidays/Views etc.

Get a clue.

I guess JWPC isn't getting any packages today. It's a shame some folks have to ram their beliefs down others throats!

Rock on USPS. I ship hundreds of items all over the world and their service and standards are unbelievably good!

Happy holiday to whomever is celebrating!!!

Not only is this not a holiday for everyone these delivery people are being paid more for two or four hours work then they more then likely make in nearly a week no one is takeing advatage of anyone here.

These people will have up to an extra $500 to $900 in pay next week from working these two days they will be smileing when the heating bills come in or the credit card bill what every it might be.

ITs also posible that the people that worked over the weekend and did deliverys till 9 PM over this month will get a week off extra with pay for volenteering to work the hours and holiday.

Just a quick note for everyone about the USPS carriers. PLEASE recognoze your carrier with a gift this year - holy day or not to everyone, they are working HARD and usually get nothing but complaints. We gave our carrier a $20.00 appreciation tip and he was HAPPY! They work hard!

Also another side note about today Christ was not born on Christmas day it has it's origins in paganism.

So for that reason some Christian's do not celebrate today as the birth of Christ for that very reason.

Tipping a Federal employee is prohibited by law, especially the Letter Carrier. Besides $60.00/hr is sufficient for their hard work!

go USPS!!!

Yes Jake, that is correct.

With views like yours, it's no wonder that racism is still so strong in this country.

Thank goodness for the folks like you that
don't celebrate Christmas, or I may have been
forced to wash my own car, and change my own flat tire earlier today.

Thank you.

Jakemelon:

Actually, you are partially correct. You are not permitted to tip your mail carrier with CASH, but are permitted to tip with a gift with a value of $20.00 or less.

And, for others on this thread, Christmas is not my holiday. I celebrate Chanukah. So, in the working world, I ALWAYS volunteered to work on Christmas, so other employess could be home celebrating with their families.

Nothing wrong with that.

Thank you feets, for both the selfishless, and generous gesture for us that do celebrate Christmas, and for your outlook on ACCEPTING others beliefs.

Thank You! and Happy Hanukah <sp>

Pocono,

No thanks necessary. I try my best to respect EVERYONE's beliefs and celebrations, and hope for the same treatment in this world. We really are all the same, despite the outward differences.

Very Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Regarding my comment about tipping your carrier and jakemelon's comment about it being illegal, my father is a retired postal mail carrier, and he told me that about two years ago the Postmaster "relaxed" the rules and stated that monetary gifts of $20.00 or less were acceptable, as well as personally made gifts. I find that most people who state that the carriers should not get tipped, just don't want to give up the money! And keep in mind, they DO NOT make $60.00 per hour year round, just on one day!

You should be thanking them for their service for the other 364 days as well!

...and what views would those be Pocono?

I guess when I said this nation has many religions and we should all recognize and tolerate them is racist in your eyes. Then there must be something wrong with you. Perhaps that is why there is a problem with racism in this country because of fundementalist religious zealots who do not care about others' religions/practices except their own.

Anything that deviates just a little bit from their blind views is considered evil, wrong and they all shall burn in hell right?

jake

p.s. I am a Catholic, born and raised in a Catholic family and I DO celebrate Christmas I just cannot stand it when someone wants to enforce their religious views on everyone else.
