I have a question about a deadbeat bidder that I apparently have on one of my auctions. I understand the process of reporting NPB's and getting my fees credited back to me. What I have a question with is how long do I wait before I file with eBay? The auction closed on 12-16-00 and I have sent 3 EOA notices to the user and I have not received any response from the user. The last one had the following in it:
"THIS IS THE THIRD AND FINAL NOTICE. I MUST HEAR FROM YOU BY 3:00 PM EST ON FRIDAY JANUARY 5, 2001 OR I WILL REPORT YOU TO EBAY AS A NON-PAYING BIDDER AND LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK."
The deadline I have imposed is 20 days from end of auction and I have received NO response whatsover from this bidder. I want to ask you all if I am being unreasonable to at LEAST hear back from the user as to what his intentions are.

Ouch! No way to start a Year..
Based on your information, you are not being impatient. Remember, you have to wait another 10 days after filing NPB, before you can apply for your FVC.

The only suggestion that I'd have is that you send the last email from the "Email this auction..." link in the auction listing and maybe one other email address besides your registered Ebay address. It may be a case of email server incompatability, and either he's not getting your emails, or you're not getting his responses.

Thanks. It's nice to know I'm not being unreasonable. In this age of instant gratification, sometimes I get a little impatient and I wanted to make sure that wasn't happening here.
The interesting thing is that this user has a FB rating of 16 with no negs going back over a 2 year period. Not a heavy buyer, but he has a good track record.
Oh well... not for much longer.

Seven days after an auction file an NPB if they have not responded to an EOA and followup. A payer will respond, a non-payer will not.

Hey, guess what? I got an email from the buyer today. He sent me the money via Paypal. I guess my strongly worded letter finally got through to him.

Now I'm confused again. The buyer just sent me an email saying that he mailed a check, and I have already received the money from him via Paypal. I guess I'll mail the check back to him when it arrives. What an idiot...
