LOL! I decided to check out my German bidder's "about me" page and of course, it is in German. So, I ran it through Alta Vista's Babel fish translation thingy. What a hoot!

My feedback for her read, when I typed it, "Fast payment, great communications, ****** (her name) is welcome to bid again any time!" but when translated from German to English read:

"Almost payment, communications, ****** (her name) great is welcome to bid again anytime!

And another positive FB in her FB profile read: "If payment, everything snaps prima, gladly again, thanks"

And part of her about me page, listing her interests, says: "I am large fan of Winnie the Pooh and its friends, particularly from Iah (my comment: Eeyore I suppose?). therefore look up I quite urgently animalanimal animals of the adventurers from the 100-Morgen-Wald" My comment: 100 Acre-Wood. LOL.

This was all very amusing to me, the way it was so very loosely translated. Just thought I'd share.

Looks like the translator is aptly named...even after translation it is like a "tower of Babel"

If you want a pretty funny, definitely non-politically correct translation, try this site:

http://www.rinkworks.com/dialect/

You can choose between: Redneck, Jive, Cockney, Elmer Fudd, Swedish Chef, Moron, Pig Latin, or Hacker.

For more fun with Babelfish, take some text you've written, or a URL of a webpage written in your own language, translate it to another language, then translate that back to your own language. The results are sometimes unfunny gibberish, and sometimes are among the most hilarious things.

For example, I took the above paragraph from English to Spanish to English, and got the following:

For more diversion with Babelfish, it takes a little from text that you have written, or a URL of webpage written in its own language, translates it to another language, later translates that again to its own language. The results are guirigay sometimes unfunny, and are sometimes between the most laughing things.

I've seen funnier doing this.

I shouldn't rag too much on Babelfish. For all its imperfections, it's a useful little tool.
