Does the USPS issue a document or any sort of paper when it decides not to honor an insurance claim? Otherwise, how do you know if a buyer is telling the truth when they tell you that the post office has refused to pay? I'm probably going to very reluctantly refund the purchase price and postage to a buyer I suspect of scamming me from the beginning--but I'd like to know FOR SURE that she really did submit this claim to the post office first (I sent her the original green slip).

Hmmmm..... I think you should have held onto that green slip. She should have gone to the post office and initated the insurance claim and then they would have mailed your a form to fill out (same paperwork that she would have filled out) and then YOU would have supplied the green slip as proof of insurance to your post office (I believe)...

I could be wrong about that though... truthfuly, the only Insurance Claim that I've had to file in nearly 4 years on eBay was for a Neon Light (over $200.00) and that was a couple of years ago even.

If you sent HER your green insurance receipt, that might mean you gave away YOUR PROOF of insurance - leaving you without a leg to stand on IF she claims (truth or otherwise) that the post office has refused to refund.

By the way... did she give the "reason" why the USPS wouldn't pay the claim?

Thanks Dottie. She hasn't said why they refused to pay.

I've only had one other insurance claim and at that time I sent the buyer the slip, she presented it with her damaged item to her post office and they paid her on the spot. Both that item, and this one, were rather inexpensive--$20 range.

I did make a photocopy of the insurance receipt.

I don't think it's going to matter anyway--I suspect she never presented the item, which is why I asked the question <g> I've had bad feeling about this buyer/item from day one.

Your buyer is not the problem here. The problem here are those idiots working at the post office she tried to make a claim at.

I too have this problem right now. My customer paid for insurance, her item arrived damaged, she emailed me and I fill out all the necessary paperwork and mailed it to her along with the little green slip.

The customer then emails me and told me the post office she went to denied her claim !

I told her to send me all the original paperwork I sent her and the original little green slip and that I would make the claim myself and send her the money.

I recieved the package today (minus the paperwork and green slip). I then emailed her and told her to send me the paperwork and slip or I would not be able to do anything about it.

She told me she forgot to send it and she would ASAP.

Once I recieve the paperwork and slip I will make the claim myself and issue her a full refund.

Until then it is still in limbo.

You have to look at it this way. As a seller I am known by all of the people that work at the post office and it is much easier for me to make a claim than it is for my buyer. This might have been her first time ever going to the post office and therefore she would not recieve the same attention I would in the same situation.
