Hello! I have a friend with an incredibly large amount of records she would like to sell on ebay and we were wondering what other sellers ship them in and is there a more ecomical way than Priority Mail to ship them?? When I sold my collection I shipped Priority but since then there have two rate increases!
Records might qualify for Special Standard (book rate) shipping.
Special Standard is for books, tapes, that kind of thing. Records might be able to be lumped in this category. Special Standard is cheap but is slow. Some things I have sent this way have taken close to a month to get to the destination. First Class might be a lot better.
Special cardboard mailers for records are available (probably not cheap unless you buy in quantity) and some of these folks here can give you a website to check out I'm sure. Some have used pizza boxes (not used pizza boxes of course)

Tammy -
Records qualify for "MEDIA MAIL" ... slow but cheap. The best shipping container is a pizza box, with bubblewrap to keep the record from bouncing around in it. Unused box of course.
Many stores that sell supplies used by vending trucks sell packs of pizza boxes ... she'll have to call some form the yellow pages and see what's available.

Records the 33s sold siglely after packageing are usually under 13oz and ship frist class reasonably even the new rate will be only $2.97
frist class id treated like priority and is far faster then the 7 to 14 day shipping of book or media rate.
78s are like gold to the PO to ship one package to arrive in one peice cost $5.80 to $6.35 .
average shipping for most records will be 1 /12 to 2x your winning bids.
I Charge a flat rate of $3.50 shipping for single Lps and $1 extra per LP
inless you make your own custom packageing for record sales one of two things will happen you will have a lot of refunds to paid out or you will pay a small fortune for mailers.
you cant ship in thin card board or paper must use heavy coragated card board to avoid bending during rough handleing and shipping.
best way to sell records if you dont have 40 hours or more to invest weekly is locally flea markets and garage sales genrally there will be no refund for damage and no shipping cost I spend 20 to 30 hours listing and fallowing up on sales 10 to 14 hours with packageing and shipping each sales in the end bring .50 to .80 after cost for you time.
