I can't win. I placed a $25 bid on a $10 doll earlier this week. I was high (and only) bidder all week. Now I found someone beat my astronomical bid of $25 and won the auction.

The other person placed six bids during the last seven minutes of the auction, and finally toppled my high bid. Boy, I'll bet she was was surprised! Darn.

'Not having much luck with this doll. Last time I decided to snipe bid, and the seller ended the auction early.

I have become the queen sniper this past week. I got a DVD player for Christmas and I've been building up my collection quite rapidly via eBay. So far I've gotten every single DVD I have wanted by sniping in the last 30 seconds except....last week there was an auction ending at 11:30 a.m., it was snowing where I live....and my cable went out and I lost my connection and couldn't bid!!!

I was bummin.

But I turned around and won it this weekend

I don't bid on anything early enough to get outbid anymore. Now when I started on eBay...that's a different story.

After not winning much of what I bid on, I learned to snipe.

Today, I helped my neighbor snipe an item for $4,800!! What a rush!!! I never spent more than $120 on an item.

Glad it was his money and not mine but boy, was it exciting.

AnnieJean,

I had to delete your post because it contained a promotional link.

Joice: I don't see why that was considered a "promotional" link. I'm not promoting anything nor am I affiliated in any way with that site.

However, be that as it may, if anyone would like a link to a great site that sells nice dolls very inexepensively please send me an email and I'll send you the link.

If the email doesn't work just post a message here (NOT a promotional one heaven forbid!) and I'll get back to you some time later tomorrow as I am heading out to work the night shift right now.)

Hey twin!!..I know this may seem simplistic,a nd untrusting of the "eBay Community", but have you checked this bidder out?...Could this be a case of really stupid shiller???? I recently had one on a DVD...drove my price up $20 with numerous bids...when I pulled info and checked bid history, I found out the seller and bidder were husband and wife using the SAME IPO with only one letter different in their e-mail addy's, and that hey had done this on about 20 different auctions...worth takin a look!

Snipe bidding is the only way to win. I just got lazy, plus the seller ended the auction early last time so I didn't want to take that chance. The other bidders' initial bid was $12, before she started bumping it up. If I had bid smart, I would have won the item for $12.50. Instead, I was outbid at $26. Getting lazy, I guess.

Bill -- I have a related but opposite problem -- all my Ken dolls want to play with my GI Joes.

Ahhhhhhh, what's a gal to do?

Can I send you a Teddy Bear instead? No, you say? A Doll or nothing? Will your kids let you use THEIR doll?

Just teasing you, cuz you're always such a good sport....

Hello Twinsoft,

On the other hand, when you place a snipe bid you have no assurance that it will top the proxy of the earlier high bidder.

In this auction you almost surely would have won at $12.50 since the other bidder probably wouldn't have rebid a high proxy once they gained the high bid.

But more experienced non snipers will often place a proxy after they gain the high bid in order to muddy the waters should someone be planning a snipe based on the current high bid.

Now for my real question to you. Would you have raised your bid had you been aware that another person had jumped into the bidding? Or was $25 the absolute maximum you would have paid for the doll?

That's the way I figure it too. $25 was my maximum and a lot higher than I expected bidding to go. These dolls were selling two weeks ago at Toys-R-Us for $8, but they are discontinued now.

It's best to snipe. Rookies often bid up out of frustration. Foreign bidders often do the same because they can't get items.
