This was my biggest fear come true in dealing with non US checks. I sold a $5 item...they wrote a check.....I held item longer than usual 10 days....I get notice from my bank today that I am charged $40 for a bounced international check.

Ouch. Sometimes it is good that these things happen so that you can learn from the experience, that the cost to you was $40 plus the NSF check on a low sale instead of a high sale.
Here is what I do on international sales.
I accept money orders in US funds or I accept cash. I accept checks in US funds only from repeat customers.

I've only had 1 U.S check bounce in almost 2 years. I normally don't accept international checks but I made a few exceptionas in the past that worked out fine. Unfortunately for me this one was a $40 mistake.
Oh well....guess I learned my lesson huh!
