Make sure you are only being charged $3.50 for your 1 pound priority packages. The post office I use has not changed over to the computer system yet.
On these old systems the 2 pound rate of $3.95 comes up and then the clerk has to change it to $3.50
If they don't change it it rings up at $3.95 I fill out the insurance tickets with the postage price in mine or they would not have caught it.

I ran into this AGAIN today--three days after the new rates took effect, you would think something might've been done to the programming or the clerks given an extra heads up! Anyway, the clerk helping me said there is confusion because they had been told that the one-pound rate applied only to priority mail in an envelope, not a box! But when I asked him if there was a special key for him to key in envelope priority versus boxed priority, he said there wasn't, so I'm guessing 1# envelopes are also being charged the 2# rate right now. He deducted the extra 45 cents from my boxes, but if I hadn't noticed the higher charge would've been applied.

The priority bags help to keep weight down. If something weighs 12 oz and you pack it well, using a priority box--- whoops just over 1 lb!
Using bags with cardboard works great! They designed the boxes well but they are heavy.
Also, remember- you don't HAVE to use a priority box - I use thinner box and use the stick on priority label. You can order by the roll from the PO
