Hi - I accept PayPal for payment and haven't had any problems so far. I am NOT 'verified' but I do have a premier account (not personal).
I just received a payment but it says I must become verified to get the payment ?!?!?!? Here's the email....
------------------------------------------
This email confirms that you have received an Auction Instant Purchase Payment
for $30.49 from xxxx xxxx ([email protected])
Note: Our records indicate that you are Unverified. In order to accept
this payment you must first Verify your account by confirming your bank account.
TRANSACTION INFORMATION:
Amount: $xx.xx
Item/Product Name: xxxx xxxx
Buyer: xxxx xxxx
<snip>
-------------------------------------------
I don't WANT to become 'verified' - I'm very leery of them having 'access' to my bank account. Please - no comments as to whether I should or not. My question is... has this happened to anyone else???
Do you have to become 'verified' to receive payments????

Check the ever-changing TOS on their site. They might have decided to make EVERYONE verify an account, whether premier or not.
Ask your buyer to use MONEYZAP.COM ... Western Union's service ... slower because THEY verify the SENDER of the money to make sure it's not a stolen CC before they send you the funds.
If they insist on access to the bank account, tell them to drop dead. There have been just enough horror stories about accounts frozen and money sucked back out of accounts to make me extremely wary.

Ok, I figured out what happened. Somehow - on just two auctions that ended the 9th - a PayPal 'Instant Purchase' button is in the auction. The buyer (quite logically) clicked on it to pay.
This 'Instant Purchase' requires you to be verified.
Now I just have to figure out how the button got there. I assume I did it somehow but it's not on any of my other auctions. And - if *I* did it - it must not have been made clear that you needed to be 'verified' (because I'm adamently against that for myself).

If paypal ever deposited money into your account, they already have all the info they need to take it out. So verification is not really giving them anything. However, part of the verification process is checking off a box that says you give them permission to access your account on your instructions. PP defines your checking this box as blanket permission to access your account. Legally it is not. If they do so, you can go to your bank and stop it. Some banks have blocked PP from accessing accounts completely. Read the information on this page and then decide whether you want to give PP such authority (or even the impression that they have this authority) over your account.

PayPal can only deposit to bank accounts for verified PayPal accounts, so how could they have her bank info and made previous deposits to barbarake's bank account if she's not verified? Always has been that way.
As to how the buttons got there, who knows? The possibility exists that you accessed the wrong menu for adding buttons, if you added logos automatically. The IP buttons seem to be a bit flukey--at least one person has posted that a buyer was able to use it before the sale ended, even after PP revamped the system to prevent this.
If you can't accept the payment, is it still showing up as "Unclaimed" in the buyer's account? If so, send them a request for money, have them cancel the IP and pay your request. You should get the money the old fashioned way, and have full access to it. I just hope they aren't paying with a stolen card.

My account was opened before the whole verification game was started. I had received numerous deposits into my bank account. When verification came along, I realized that I was not giving them any info they didnt already have.

PayPal can and does make deposits into unverified bank accounts. I have an unverified checking account linked to my PayPal account (in addition to a verified checking account that I never use). All of my deposits go into the unverified account.
You cannot fund a Paypal account via an unverified checking account.

Strange. I just added a second checking account to my verified Premier PayPal account this morning, and can't have funds deposited to it until I verify that account. Maybe they're picking on me????

Hehehehe. At least that's what they said when I added it. However, if you go back in and submit another withdrawal request, it will let you send money to that account. My mistake.

Barbarake,
Was this a "BIN" auction? From the "Instant Purchase" choice that your buyer chose, this is what comes first to my mind.
I'm already verified so I haven't run into this, but again, I have never received an instant purchase through PayPal.

I was verified through x.com and when they closed the accounts I opened an account with compubank just for Paypal use.
They do not accept compubank for verification so I am still "unverified". I hope they are not playing around with changing this as I am tired of opening up new accounts that they will not accept.
My customers like Paypal and so do I but I will never give them my personal bank information.
