I read just yesterday (if I'm remembering this accurately) in another thread that International rates also went up considerably and that in some instances GPM was cheaper than surface. The first part is to be expected, but the last part made no sense.
Well, this morning I found out for myself, after discovering that a winning bidder is from Malaysia.
Yep, rates went up alright. And for your info. the item to be shipped is a set of paperbacks. Now, prior to the rate change it would have cost less than $4 to ship. Now it will cost $6.50!
Why so much more? Well, I downloaded and printed out the entire Publication 51. It seems that now unless you are mailing 200 books or 50 lbs. of books at once, you can no longer get the cheap book rate for surface!
Well, I haven't heard from my bidder yet regarding the tremendous cost, but he didn't inquire before bidding either. So I guess he's stuck with it. (Believe me, if I could cram 3 paperbacks in a small GPM envelope, I'd do it and save the buyer $1.50, but that wouldn't fly. And the large GPM envelope would be $11.00, much worse than $6.50!)
I'm going to have to insert something in my TOS warning the International customers that rates have gone up considerably. They're not going to be getting their books for what they've been used to getting them for...
