In December I had a buyer who won an auction and sent me an email following me EOA that said "I will be paying PayPal" and they sent their name and mailing address. I waited for the payment and I never got notification. I ended up filing a NPB Alert and this buyer emailed me and said they had a receipt through PayPal to my email that they paid. I went through all of my payment received transactions through PayPal, looking for both this persons name and the item that they won, thinking perhaps I had overlooked it. As far as I could see, I have no record of any transaction for this particular buyer and item. I asked them to please forward the information to me that they got from PayPal and I have not heard back from them. They aren't new to eBay, they've got a decent feedback rating (not 100 but more than 50) with no negatives. I sent this person an email the other day stating nicely that I wanted to get this transaction completed, could she please either send me the information I requested or send me my payment.

I've not heard back and I emailed them on Monday. I am hesitant to leave her a negative because I do not want her to file a claim with PayPal (I dont want my account even briefly suspended). I don't care if she gives me a retalitory negative.

Advice?

Ask her to check HER account looking for something that is UNCLAIMED ... usually this results from the buyer entering the wrong emauil address. She can reclaim that payment and send it to you.

And ask her to send you the FULL transaction details, including cuttin and pasting the email address she sent it to, and the transaction number. Maybe she sent it to a different PayPal member.

If she is not willing to take these steps to help you, file the NPB and the FVF.

Hi
abataxi is correct...that's probably what happened.
Same thing happened here.

She won't answer my emails though, which is the problem I've run in to with her since she claimed to have sent the payment through PayPal. I've even sent "return receipt requested" options and I dont get a response with those either.

"She won't answer my emails though"

Go to the auction page and use the "send to a friend" link. Use the message space to let her know that the payment did not come through, probably because of a small email error (having a period at the end of the email, which happens when they cut and paste, is the usual cause). And file for FVF if she is unwilling to do what it takes to check where the payment went.

It's HER MONEY! Doesn't she care that it vanished into cyberspace?

Several times buyers have told me they paid with paypal and I didn't receive notice or find the item in my history. Each time, I have notified the buyer, asked them to find the item in their history, and each time they have found the purchace didnt go through for some reason, have redone it, and all turned out well.

As to buyer not responding to email. I have had one or two buyers who had trouble with their email, finally resolved it, and ended happily. But when you cant contact the buyer, or they don't respond, I don't know what to say, except try snail mail, if you have the address. I understand you might be able to get this from ebay. I haven't yet tried this option.

PS I pay with paypal or some other service whenever I can, otherwise I am likely to forget to pay, with the expected problems resulting. I hate having to write checks, address envelopes, buy money orders, etc. I love to receive e payments rather than wait for the money, wait for the check to clear, etc. Pretty good reasons to me to use e payments, despite the fees.

Well it's now Saturday evening and I still have not heard back from her. I've emailed her from 2 differenet emails, I've sent her an email through the auction she one (with the send this auction to a FRIEND), I've already filed a NPB alert and when I rechecked her feedback I noticed that she only had a feedback rating UNDER 10 (I had mistaken her for someone else's rating) and she's still bidding and still paying, as she's got a recent feedback regarding an auction won after mine.

Do I risk just leaving this person a negative , getting my Filing fee back (it's been way past the 10 days) and relisting the item?

I am 99.9% positive there is no transaction from her, I have her name as she posted it to me saying "I will pay paypal" and there is no payment received from that specific name at all, nor is there an auction number or name specifying what she won. I am positive she did not pay me through PayPal as she said and she also did not send me any paper payment as she does not have my mailing address!!!

This is extremely frustrating.

You've done your part, now she's just being ignorant. I'd consider her a newbie with a feedback of around 10. She probably made an error, and doesn't realize it. I had a potential deadbeat say he would make a PayPal payment, but he had to register first.

I waited two weeks, still no payment. He replied (3 days later) saying he paid, but the money went uncollected for 4 days.

I explained that he may have made a typo and the payment would therefore not get processed. Try to let your bidder know that, if she'll read your email. Ask her to check her PayPal transaction log to verify the payment was posted to your account, that is, if she even reads your email now.

Also, I just found out by doing this myself, you need to post a Non-paying bidder altert, AND THEN wait 10 days before you can ask for a FVF and insertion credit. I tried, but got a message that said "Woooops!!!! Our records indicate you filed a NPB report less than 10 days ago...

Well, good luck!
