Hi, I have a few auctions listed on ebay and it has come to my attention that Netscape users cant see them. I contacted ebay support and was told that I need to take out the "HTML" code. Which I did, but Netscape users still cant see my pics or discription. If there is anybody that can help please look at item #1403934040 huge lot of 80 craft magazines . Thanks

Netscape 4.7 here, and yes, nothing below the description header is showing. IE is pretty forgiving with regards to HTML, Netscape isn't. My guess is that you've left an HTML tag open somewhere in your description. If you click on "revise" in any of your auctions that don't have bids, you should be able to find the problem & correct it.

reddeer, thanks for your reply. I have checked and double checked. I even copied the entire auction and did a text search for "HTML" in upper and lower case and still came up empty.

Anybody else have any idea what it could be?

A friend of mine had the same problem...turned out he forgot to close a table. You might check that, if you use tables in your auctions....

toke, I really wouldn't know were to begin. If I understand you correctly I should be looking for a command that is not closed with </?>.

Oh shoot, I don't know is there a site or something that I can have check the code for me?

I looked at the code and I think you forgot to close a table. I think </td></tr> is missing at the bottom of the page before </body>.

Netscape is definitely less forgiving than IE. There were a few things wrong. You were using a ' instead of " in some places. There were no " around your links to your pics. You had a lot of unncessary code including end tags that didn't have beginning tags. And you started a table, column and row but didn't end them. That is a big one with Netscape. It kind of loads as it goes through the code, so if it encounters a problem it stops. IE tends to approach it differently, loading a bit of everything.

If you want to see the changes here. A good site for HTML is HTML Goodies

Hope that helps!

Wilta: You have some pretty messy html in the top few lines of your listing. Here is where the trouble is:

<blockquote>
<table align=center cellpadding=8 width='93%' border=7 cellspacing=0
bgcolor='#bc8f8f'><tr><td
align=CENTER width='1%'><BR>
<p></font></p><br>

You need to go in to your listing and delete everything after the <blockquote> leave the blockquote there but delete all the text I have shown above.

The remainder of the text is okay until you get to the bottom after where it says" <!-- End PayPal Logo-->

You need to make another correction here. Leave the </blockquote> and take out everthing after it that I have bolded.

</blockquote>
</blockquote></blockquote></center></center></strong></pre></em></font></dl></ul></li></h1></h2></h3></h4></h5></h6>

When you go it to edit your listing on eBay it may not show the <blockquotes> as that is put in by their script once the listing is posted. So just remove what you can of the lines I posted above and don't worry about the <blockquote> command.

I tested the page with these corrections and it loads fine.

(In order to check this page I clicked 'View Source' then 'Control A' to highlight the page, then 'Control 'C' to copy the page. I pasted the whole page into Edit Pad (a text editor) then made the corrections mentioned above. I saved the corrected file and then opened it in my Netscape Browser and the listing came up just fine.

Edited to try to add some bolding to the trouble spots.

Edited again to say that there are other html errors in your listing that should be corrected. However, the page will load if you make the corrections shown above.

Edited again to say that there are more problems. You also have to take out this text at the bottom with the smiley image:

</blockquote></blockquote></center></center></strong></pre></em></font></dl></ul></li></h1></h2></h3></h4></h5></h6>
<a name=ebayphotohosting> <hr><img src="http://www.users.uswest.net/~saphire1/smiley.gif"><p><br><a name=BID><center><table border="1" cellspacing="0" width="100%" bgcolor="#CCCCFF">

I am going to make a new reply to this post and paste the revised text for you. You should be able to copy it and go to your eBay listing and past the whole thing into the description box.

When I took out the smiley text the whole eBay listing loaded in just fine, even with other html errors in the text.

Here is the corrected text that you can copy and paste into the description box on your eBay listing for this item. I added the font face "arial, helvetica" so that you have a nice, clean sans serif text that is visible to PC and MAC users alike. I also checked the page in IE and it loads okay. So here is the text to paste in the description box in eBay to get the listing to show up in both Netscape & IE.

AnnieJean,

But by taking out the table informaton at the beginning, that formatting is now gone. If the missing end table tags are put in at the end then it will work as intended.

I originally thought that the line </blockquote>

edited because I guess we don't need the [code] UBB tags.

Berkeley: That would be the quickest fix. However, I just thought that the simpler, non table format looked just as nice for the listing. It doesn't have the background color, but the images are centered etc.

I guess whatever works, works

AnnieJean: I agree. There are many ways to design with HTML and no two people do it the same. It's a fun, creative process. Between the two of us we probably gave Willta a lot to think about. I hope we didn't overwhelm him/her!

WOW! You guys have all been great. Thank you all for your assistance. Now the auction has another bid. I think that I will let it ride and work on correcting the templete for the next listings. I intent to use all of the advise that has been posted here and see what works best for me.

AnnieJean, you are so right. My code is a complete mess. This is because I really don't know what I'm doing. I think that I have edited it to death. With all of the changes I have made I guess I was bound to run into some sort of problem.

berkeley, AnnieJean thanks to both of you for the code.

I only know a little HTML, which is probably a good thing.

Rule 1, if you open a tag, close it

Rule 2, close the tags in the reverse order you opened them

Rule 3, KISS

Rule 4, when you steal code, steal good code.

Hey Bill,

Honestly I didn't steal it. I created it with ez-ad pro. Then added a bit here, took away bits there, until I came up with what I thought would work for me. Well after awhile all that giving and taking left a big mess.

Seriously though, thanks for your advise.

I wasn't suggesting you did, these are just the rules that I follow.

Speaking of EzAdPro...which I love...is there any way to get into the program and add a bunch of new background colors? I'd like to add some to the clickable list when you enter the program.

Now, I have to do it after I paste the program into the eBay description box...be nice to do it before, when I create and save the ads......

Willta: You're welcome! We were all beginners at it once. I would really recommend the HTML Goodies site for learning more about it. Check out the link in one of my above postings. They have some great tutorials!

toke, that is exactly how I got into this whole mess, adding stuff. I paste into auction submit and edit from there. Be very careful.
