Ebay is raising their prices on 1/31. It's bad enough there is now going to be a .30 insertion fee, but they're going to charge more to run a ten day auction. Check out their announcement boards.

Hmmmmm ....It looks like they REALLY want to run a CHEAP auction...They are hitting the "reserve" listing really hard:

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/announce.shtml

Opening Value or Reserve Price: $10.00 - $24.99
Current Insertion Fee: $0.50
New Insertion Fee: $0.55

Opening Value or Reserve Price: $25.00 - $49.99
Current Insertion Fee: $1.00
New Insertion Fee: $1.10

Opening Value or Reserve Price: $50.00 -$199.99
Current Insertion Fee: $2.00
New Insertion Fee: $2.20

Opening Value or Reserve Price: $200 and up
Current Insertion Fee: $2.00
New Insertion Fee: $3.30

Reserve for 200.00 and up going up 1.30...!!!!??????

to 3.30 plus the 1.00 reserve Penalty...

Thanks, Dragonfyree...I really need good news...

Why add a fee to 10-day auctions?

The additional exposure of a 10-day auction, plus the increased operating costs generated by these auctions, warrant an additional fee. This option will allow sellers that prefer the extra days of exposure the opportunity to continue using 10-day auctions while providing 3, 5, and 7-day auctions at no additional charge. The10-day auction has added eBay operations costs.

Using this logic, shouldn't there then be a reduction in fees for a 3 day auction?

On the fee Changes FAQ's:

Instead of increasing the insertion fee, why not increase the Final Value Fee?

We elected not to increase the Final Value Fees because increasing those fees would have penalized successful listings.

Because FVFs can be refunded, and Listing fees can not, that's why!!!

I'm with Twinsoft.

I'm not concerned about the nickel and I don't care about reserve fees. I do use ten day auctions a lot and the $.10 fee kind of sucks. I guess I will cut back on the extras like gallery and double categories.

We'll all still be using ebay after Jan. 31.

Might as well quitcherbitchin' and get over it. It doesn't amount to squat unless you're selling .98 cent items.

just got ebay's email on this..was gonna cc&p to the board, but see that Dragonfyree covered it well.
Arghhh! Can't wait to see how long THIS thread gets! IMHO, ebay ~ compared to this time last year ~ has gone downhill in many ways...deadbeats, lack of bids, downtime ~ AND ~ some of their policies just plain stink for sellers, i.e., feedback forum setup, etc. I thought it was my mdse at first until all my seller friends told me they were experiencing the same thing.
Yes, I think there is a tie-in re Yahoo....got us by the ***** now, they must think.
Well, after checking out a lot of sites, Auxpal and edeal...here I come!
I have been in touch with both, customer service is great, like both their sites and you can't beat their fees, like in none to almost none.
Maybe I am going from Goliath to David, but even giants die...lotta sellers are going to be scrambling now and that can put some other sites on the auction map! Buyers will follow...just takes a little time and patience. Just MHO, but gonna put some feet on it and get going!

Well lets see here,

10 day auction: $1.00 no reserve:

$.40 to list
$.25 gallery fee
$.05 FVF
$.30 PayPal fee

TOTAL COST $1.00

I guess there trying to drum out the sellers that want to conduct a TRUE auction.

THIS SUCKS BIG TIME!!!

The reasom most went to 10 day auctions in the first place was to try and make up for the lost viewing because of eBay's DOWN TIMES!

I sure in the hell hope they got all there frikin ducks in a row by January 31 and we NEVER have to expierence "FUNTIONALITY" problems again!

(insert BAD HAIR DAY Pic HERE!)

Not happy with new fees but like everyone else I will adjust. Just no longer profitable to sell cheaper items and will concentrate on more expensive things. AuxPal looks better everyday.

Gee what fun. I jsut signed on as a premier Pay Pal account, Post Office increases, and now Ebay increases. I don't think it will pay to list a 9.99 item anymore.

I've been trying to list more 50.00 and greater but anything that gets listed in that range has to have a reserve. Good Quality merchandise is too hard to come by to give away during an Ebay outage or because the people who want my widgets are on vacation from ebay. I've sold most items over 50.00 but it takes 2 or three auctions some times.

Er, ahem, my post was not to show support of eBay or the new fees.

Actually, though, I'm kind of relieved, because I expected fees to jump to double the current rate.

Ten-day auctions are useless anyway. As a bidder if I see one I think, "I'll come back to it" and of course I never do. Truth is, most items get lost in the listings around the second day and only get bids during the last few hours.

I'm glad eBay is putting most of the burden on the high-end reserve auctions.

I wonder about Yahoo's timing. Just when it seemed they were picking up some of eBay's business. Possible collusion, or do they both use the same astrologer?

Hey packer! if you use Billpoint you will loose a few cents - after all they have a charge to make deposits into your account.

In our city house taxes went up $300 + per house depending on the house. Just wait until the heating bills come in~outrageous~then I get my IRA lost $5,000.00. Everything is taking a hit. Ebay is a good run company, of course there will be some people doubting that but at least we won't get laid off. A nickel doesn't sound to bad. Good news. I did get a 3% raise on my Social Security. Yipee

Did anyone expect this not to happen. Their only viable free competitor just started charging 20 cents!

Put your money where your mouth is and dont list Feb1-Feb7th. Lets find a free site to post to that week. MSN or Lycos maybe!

Why do you think they only gave 14 days notice? Because a month would have given us too much warning to join together and do something like this. And the fact that they were just waiting for Yahoo to start charging. I thought I heard a boom the day Yahoo made that announcement. Now I know what it was. All the champaign bottles going off at eBay!

Doesn't hurt me one bit.

I already tacked on extra for the postage rate increase, for the Paypal fees, and now I will tack on ebay's precious little nickel.

It hurts the buyers.

No more 10 day auctions for me.

Most seller have seen it coming for a long time. I wonder why it took THAT long

Yes, much more profitable to run higher-end auctions, which do not necessarily carry OUTRAGEOUS reserves. To a non-reserve seller, ALL reserves seem outrageous...but "it ain't necessarily so..."

This is a very bad move, for everyone...

Many of my auctions are under in the $10-$20.00 range. Between paypal's increase in fees (I have stayed with them but am now considering closing the account) the increase in the USPS fees, and now ebay's increase I don't know if I will be able to continue to run auctions full time.

This additional 10 cent fee for 10 days is really outrageous.

Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

twinsoft,

In the area that I sell, 10 day auctions draw more hits and the bids are higher than auctions running 3,5 or 7 days.

Yes it is only a nickle, but the timing stinks, and for those of us that don't deal in high end, it really hurts us.
