I've got my first auction up this week, Got an e-mail from a buyer asking "Would you be interested in selling before the auction?", what or how do you handle this?

Thanks for any help

If you didn't do BIN I would just politely tell them no and have them bid on it It could possibly be something more of value than you may realize (and the person questioning you DOES realize) and you could lose out in the end.

Tell them no and let the auction run! To see why check out these threads by me:

BIN NOT - Doing the happy dance
BIN NOT - An update
BIN NOT - The finals

or something close to that. Your widget is probably something that would gain alot of interest and this person is just trying to beat others to the gun.

Please let it run and let us know how you do!

What the buyer asked you to do is against eBay rules and can get you suspended.

You can read the following articles at:

What you should do is forward the email with full headers to [email protected].

I believe if the buyer placed a bid and was the high bidder, mysticbb could end the auction early and sell to the buyer before the auction's official end, without being in violation of eBay's rules.

Not that I'm recommending this.

Thanks all, I knew it didn't sound to kosher, and I didn't want to deal with BIN untill I got a handle on the reg auction thing. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I recently encountered this situation for the first time on ebay. (After nearly 2 years, I'm surprised that it took this long!) About 2 hours after I had a Strawberry Shortcake lot up I got an email from someone offering me $25 to close the auction. I politely declined and told them that I'd throw in free shipping if they won. (Immediately tipped off that something in this lot was valuable.) I researched and researched, I couldn't find the name of the doll that I had, turns out, that was the valuable item. Had I ended the auction I would have only gotten about 1/2 of what the auction ended at. Just my 2 cent experience.
