This is the text that taught me how...

A "thumbnail" is a little picture that gives people the general idea of what the full size picture will look
like. They're "clickable" pictures, and when you click on them, it takes you to a bigger picture.

Using a graphic for a link is just like using text for a link. It would look like this in your markup:

<a href="http://www.infoseek.go.com/"><img src="infoseek.gif"
alt="Infoseek"></a>

The A HREF is where you want the link to point to. Then, instead of text, you use an image inside the anchor. The ALT text is there for non-graphical browsers. People who have images turned on will see the image as a link. Text-only browsers and some people who have images disabled will see the ALT text instead.

To do a thumbnail, a little picture points to a bigger picture.

<a href="fido.gif"><img src="lilfido.gif" alt="My dog"></a>

If the big picture is very big (say, over 50K), warn people.

To do this, you need two versions of the graphic. One is full size, and you might already have it. The other one is the thumbnail, and you make it by editing the full size picture.

*don't think you'll need the "alt" stuff...this was written several years ago.

You can go look at one of my auctions under seller id darcyw, View Page Source, and see how I did it.

It takes longer to edit the photos but the bidders sure appreciate it.

It is a very effective technique for enhancing bids and getting new bidders to your auction pages, particularly if you are good at taking closeup photos. Bidders new to eBay will choose to bid on the auctions with good photos versus the pages with blurry photos, too small photos or not enough photos.

Thanks, Darcy .. I want to use a different auction management site but it doesn't do thumbnails. I have about 50 items I'm working on that really need at least 2 pics and 2 close ups!

Even though I read this board, I don't use an auction software. I designed my own template. I upload my photos to my web url using an FTP software.

I can give you one of the lines from my template. It has my directory and file names in it.

<A HREF=http://www.teleport.com/~darcyw/jan1401/40-a.jpg><img src=http://www.teleport.com/~darcyw/jan1401/40-ath.jpg></a>

Just substitue your info where my stuff is and you have it.

You can also get expert help at the HTML board on eBay. The folks there are great.

Toke is correct. The html tuturials are easy and a lot of fun.

Designing your own auction pages gives you the flexibility to present pages that attract the specific type of buyer to the items you are selling.

Here are two urls for colors for your fonts. I printed out the two pages and keep them in my reference file.

I've got a lot of the basics down for HTML .. font color, p, br, b, i, size, etc .. just none of the fancy stuff!!

I appreciate the specific html line, Darcy.

Thanks loads, Toke and Darcy!!
