Some jerk on the UseNet who has been threatening to "get" me posted this today:

"Can PJ say Ebay? Sure you can...."

IOW a threat to try to mess up my eBay auctions. The only thing I can think of is that he would bid on one of my auctions and if he wins purposely give me negative feedback so he can "get" me. Right now I have a perfect eBay feedback record of 276 positives and NO negatives. I'm sure this jerk to out to blemish my record. Who at eBay should I report this threat to? I also believe this threat (if carried out) may be illegal since it is a form of fraud.

You could report it to safeharbor, but I think they have to actually do something first.

In a threat situation...You never want to have the last word as that keeps the threat alive...
Just leave it alone and it will probably go away...

If I get a negative in the near future after 276 positive feedbacks, it will sure look mighty suspicious.

PJ

Give it up and forget it! A negative will make you look human! A negative is not the end of the world.

In all cases where contention has arisen between an eBay seller and posters on some usenet forum, we come to the key question.

Has this seller been spam advertising their auctions?

Some people do spam, posting ads in usenet groups which are not advertising groups, and attempting to disguise FA (for acution) ads as FS (for sale). Such sellers deserve incoming misery, including almost any action which will cost the spammer money or time.

Hopefully, the initiator of this thread will reassure us that whatever is going on is not related to spam.

The UseNet threat was made in an unrelated matter to posting auction links. That wasn't what he was flaming about.

The fact of the matter is that when you do get a "neg" it does feel like the end of the world...it hurts.

It feels "like the end of the world"?

Time for juuuuust a little perspective, please. Unless you also worry about what the clerks at Wal-Mart say about you after you leave, an 85-character remark from a complete stranger regarding a business transaction is not likely to trigger a desire to spend the week in bed with the shades drawn.

PJ,
For what it's worth: As a seller with 1040 listed FB and 1111 actual(with repeats) and no negs, do this; ONLY leave feedback after they leave feedback. If you don't, you leave yourself wide open for no response to their negative. As long as you haven't posted feedback for them, you have the last word and the threat of giving them a neg as well. Chances are their numbers are lower than yours and an early neg looks worse for them than your later ones, especially when you can respond with the truth.
As always contact Safeharbor right away and let them know this is what's coming their way. Copy and paste all their e-mails, etc into your word program and keep a well documented paper trail.
Finally, no one likes negs but don't be bullied by a weirdo. Most people who buy are reasonable and understand that there are people out there who can't have a good day unless they ruin someone else's. A friend of mine who sells is currently going through a living hell with a certifiable psycho and got neged anyway. To hell with them! Move on and don't let someone else even attempt to get their jollies by passing their own personal negativity on you.

Can you tell us which UseNet group this issue regards?
