Well, long story made short, I accidently shipped to the wrong address. I don't know how I did it because I use Stamps.com and cut & pasted the address directly from the email that was sent from the buyer and put it directly into the Stamps.com program. Yet, when my customer emailed me tellin me that he/she had not received the package, I checked the print postage history and sure enough, it was a different address than the one the buyer sent me in the email!!?? It was the same name, street address, apt. #, state, but the zip code and city were different.

So, I will refund the money at the buyer's request but my question is this: HOW DO I GET MY PACKAGE BACK. Is it just tough luck or will the PO realize that the address doesn't exist ( or at least I hope it doesn't !!) and return the package?

With all due respect the first thing I would do is get rid of stamps.com.

If you take a package to the PO their computer will tell you if the zip code does not match the street address, etc on the label.

I would expect a service like stamps.com to do the same.

Call the post office to check if the package will be returned to you or ultimately delivered.

This is hardly Stamps.com's fault. I've been using Stamps.com for over a year and couldn't be happier with their service. Perhaps when you copy & pasted you only ended up copying the name & street address -and the city, state, & zip was there from the previous label you printed?

Also, when I bring all my hundreds of packages to the PO every week they don't EVER scan the packages to see if they are correct. That would defeat the purpose of using Stamps.com and just dropping it off to the PO in the first place!

Also, Stamps.com DOES check to see if the city, state & zip match their system. If it does NOT, you have the chance to override it if you say you know it is a correct address. Perhaps you overrided it without realizing? Also, if Stamps.com sees that the zip is wrong they automatically correct it. So it could have been a number of things that went wrong here.

As far as getting your package back, if it is not deliverable you will get it returned to you. If that WAS a valid address then it will be delivered. And if it WAS delivered - you can just hope that the person who receives it will return it to the sender instead of just keeping it. Good luck!

I do not blame Stamps.com for this. I blame myself for not double checking the printed address with the address she gave me. Believe, I will make an effort to from now on.

But, does anyone know if I will get my package back. It was sent via USPS Priority with NO Del. Conf.

I am almost positive that the address doesn't exist. What are the chances that two exact street addresses exist in TWO different towns.

Most buyers are cooperative when you tell them the package is lost in limbo and are waiting for it to show up. Buy time and if it still doesn't get returned, issue a refund and you're out the item. I'm not sure if the PO will do a tracer if it has no tracking number, but you can ask.

Your package will be returned to you. It will go around the block a couple of times, then be sent back to sender...

I did that last year, when bidder gave me an incomplete address..a $1,500 sale! I sure sweated it out...but it came back, I emailed buyer asking him for EXACT address, sent it back and all that was well ended well...Chin up...

You package was delivered to that address and in the city and state you put in. Try sending the resident at that adddress a letter explaining what happen and offer a collect call to straighten it out, if you get a call from them ask they rerun the package at your expense.
If the address were not a vailid one, stamps wouldnt have printed it, they validate each and every address you print by the usps validation system before printing it, by same one the PO uses. Good luck I and hope you were not out alot of $$$$$. .

I would go to one of the telephone directory sites, big yellow or something like that, and see if the address you sent it to exists. If it does I'd phone that address and see if they will nicely return the item to you.

I checked the website you gave and this was the response that I got.

*****The address you entered was not found in DELETED in our database. Please confirm the spelling and the number of the address and try again. ******

So, I shouldn't worry should I. It will probobly get sent back eventrually, right?

Well, the item wasn't worth that much anyway but I would still like to get it back.

You did not say if the package was parcel post, priority or what. If perchance it was shipped bookrate, it may or may not be shipped back to you. They do not have to return bookrate, but do sometimes. When I did this, I called the postmaster for the PO of that zip code. He was very nice, and said he would put a tracer on it. It finally showed up at the correct address.

The suggestion of doing a reverse search in the telephone directories sounds like a good one.

I hope it works out.

cape123, call the post office that handles that zip code and explain what happened, and hopefully they will track it down as it is probably still sitting in that facility. Something similar happened to me not too long ago when I shipped to a buyer's address listed on her check. She never gave me a mailing address via email, so I assumed (wrongly as it turned out) that the address on the check was where she wanted it shipped. As it turned out, she had gotten married and moved and had not lived there for months, but was still using the checks. She was able to call the Post Office, and they tracked the package down and held it for her to pick up. If where you mailed it to is not a valid address, it will sit for some time at the PO facility that services that zip, while they try to figure out what to do with it. Call them first thing Monday morning. Good luck!

You will get it back, it will be marked returned to sender...I did the same thing and it came back to me but 4 weeks later and it was because the buyer gave me his address and left out one line, which was the most important line, I didn't realize it since it was going to Purto Rico, I wasn't familer with the writting of there addresses
When packages are send there is no true way to tract it if it gets lost, thats what the person at the postoffice told me. He said you just need to wait and hope it turns up... that made me feel good!!!!!!!!!!
The fellow in Purto Rico was calling himself all kinds of names in his email to me, he felt bad, but all ended well, Which I hope will happen in your case.
