I was looking at CCnow tonight it is a payment service. I was looking for it mostly for my web site as I like the straight 9% fee and the shopping cart. Unlike Pay(not)pal system of 30 cents here a percentage here and a percentage here kind of garbage. Anyway the CCnow site looks pretty good and the also do on line auction payments, although I didn't look at the to much. I use Paydirect now which for present it free and I am happy with it. Anyway the CCNow looks pretty good and I was wondering if anyone else has ever used it? What you thought both bad and good? Thanks

I used CCNow for several months from December 1999 to May of last year.
It was a very reliable service, paid on time, etc.
Never had a problem with CCNow. I don't use it anymore because the fees are so high.

I'm using a shopping cart & merchant account for my web site.

If you like to give away almost 10% of your money and don't mind waiting one month to receive your first deposit/check then it is a super deal. Paypal may suck, but you can get your money fairly quickly. Once you are set up with CCNOW and get that first payment out of the way, you are paid every two weeks.

Why don't you got to www.valueweb.com pay for the $30-50 website, get the Miva shopping cart and integrate it with Propay? You can process cards yourself, pay a few percent and when you want your money, it takes 24 hours to get it to your bank account, unlike Paypal. Ever notice how when you pay with a Paypal E-Check it can go through your account the next day, but it takes them 3-5 days to get your money when you request it? When I have sent myself payments through Propay it has never taken more then 48 hours to deposit. Did one yesterday morning and by 10:00 last night it hit my account. Plus, you get a $10 sign-up credit with Propay, I ran $300 through there before I had to pay them anything on commission. I think they are the most overlooked and best payment service out there. They KNOW what customer service is.

CCNow is great! The support is great and it is easy to use. The commissions aren't bad when you are not selling much. Better to pay a percentage of what you sell than a fixed monthly rate when not much is selling. I figure that when I am selling enough to justify $50 a month or so, then I'll look into a monthly fee system. It is also worldwide, so works great for international transactions.

There is no monthly fee with Propay. It is either 2-3% of the transaction.

CCNow is a very good service, though they were down for a few days without a backup system a week or so back.

The straight percentage of 9% they charge is fine with me through my website.

My eBay fees (when added to what is not sold) range each month between 6% to as much as 14% per sale. This does not include the additional 3-1/2% billpoint charges. So CCnow is equally cost effective.

As with acceptance of any CC, I worry about the chargeback risks and wish I could manually select each country I will accept cards from.

I use CCNOW for my website. It is the perfect begginers system. Now that I know what I am doing I feel I have outgrown their simplistic system. Their 9% commission sucks. It is not customizable for shipping rates. So if one person buys one small item and a another person makes a huge order......they will both pay the same shipping, forcing me to adjust a higher than i'd like to shipping rate to balance things out.

But if you are new to web design and have no coding experience let alone a REAL merchant account then CCNOW would be perfect for you.

I have never used it for auctions nor would I ever........not at 9% commission.......

Thanks everyone for your advice. it seems like a lot of people are happy with CCnow. I also saw they have good recommendations from the Wall Street Journal, New York times and CNN. I looked around a few net stores last night that use it and I think I like the system. I also like the bonus of being able to do both website and auctions. Although I won't use it for American sales at a 9% rate I will use it for international sales only and for now keep using paydirect since it is free and easy on Yahoo and Ebay.

I did look at propay and well I rate propay pretty much right up there with Paypal and I am not a fan of Paypal. That is why I got ride of paypal. Propay site works clumsy and so does the intergration into a web site. Also I already have a site, a good one that has SSL, lots of pop accounts, a good baud rate, etc. at 10.00 a month.

Eventually I will go to a merchant account for both the website and auctions, but for now it seems like CCNow will also take a lot of the hassle out of things and save me some time. That is worth the extra fees.

I am not in the position where I have to worry about the 30 day wait so that isn't a big deal, but thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for the tip on the shipping thing also. I will have to see how to work that one out. Because weight varies.

I am much happier with ProPay. I get paid quick for less of a fee and I have had no problems with international buyers. (I a
AM cautious about who I accept international so no charge backs yet). I got a toll free fax from uReach.com that buyers seem to like for paying.

Let me be another to chime in to support CCNOW. I used them for almost the entire year of 1999 and had many, many sales. I wasn't real wild about their delayed payment structure, and certainly not wild about the 9% commission but they were about the only game in town at the time. They paid on time as promised and I received prompt replies from their email support.

I haven't used them once since Paypal came on the scene, and haven't missed them at all. I thought that 9% was just insanely high - and still do - but the ability to accept CC was worth it to me.
