My good name and reputation are being unfairly tarnished. I sell genuine ancient Chinese artifacts, and I have been added to a list of dishonest & unscrupulous dealers by one of my competitors.

This person has me listed under his “stolen antiques” page, in his “rogues gallery”, along with many other sellers who compete with him.

http://www.allensantiques.com

This page is indexed in most of the major search engines, and I have lost a huge amount of business because of these unwarranted allegations.

I tried pleading and even threatening this fellow to remove my ebay ID, but to no avail. His page contain the following:

“Please do not waste your time by sending me threats of legal action. Under New Zealand law, it is a defence to any action for defamation if either: (a) The statement is true, or, (b) If the statement is reasonably held to be true “

I think that this is his way of removing his competition.

Does anyone know how I can clear my name?

Maybe you could change your seller ID and email address.

If worse comes to worse, get a new ID, but you of course have to restart at a feedback rating of zero, which could be a huge setback in itself if you had built up a good rating up until now.

Also, before you do anything drastic, how about asking [email protected] if he's allowed to do that, he's using an eBay name for a non-ebay site.

Unless you also live in New Zealand, maybe that law doesn't apply to you.

I would definately report that to safeharbor. He is being slanderous and If you go dig through the sellers rules he must have broken many of them. Also get in contact with some of the other sellers who he has slandered ......maybe some of them do not even know they are listed as well.

I would also make the expensive long distance call and confront this person........who does he think he is?

Hmmm..That's a toughie.

I'd say you'd might have a defense under liable and slander acts, but since it's New Zealand law..Who knows what you could plea.

Best bet would be to lead eBay to his site and show them his ploy to knock out the competition.

I would suggest that you open a professional dialog with this person. Ask him in particular which items of yours he feels are not genuine. There is no other way to get your name removed from his list.

As for the list...

I am familiar with quite a few of the names on his list. I have bought from some and sold to others. And he is absolutely right about most of them.

allensantiques is in violation of eBay's User Agreement item 8.1 Feedback Export.

You could always file a complaint through the Safeharbor report form and let them check it out. They might not like that he has eBay user IDs posted either...

"patel126".....you started a thread last year about how to get rid of your -40 rating on eBay, which seems pretty similar to this.
You mean you haven't made any headway since last year??

Shouldn't that seller be invited here, since he has been mentioned by name?

kraftdinner... I was starting to wonder who else remembered....

Could it be that this person and the one mentioned here are one and the same? Which would be a clever way to advertise his site... Nah! too far fetched..

patel126,

As an eBay seller has been identified, you must follow the steps outlined in the Community Guidelines to invite him to participate.

This thread must be locked until these steps are followed.

Thank you for your cooperation.
