Hi all, just wondering what your thoughts are on the new paypal. I never had a problem with paypal, until the last several times when I went to pay for an auction. It will not allow me to insert an address unless I have a credit card number registered with them. I think this is unfair, below is what I emailed to their customer service.
Hello, I have never had problems before with sending money for an auction. Now I see that I cannot put in my address without using a credit card. Which I will not put on the internet. The money is in my paypal account, I am not using a credit card to pay for the auction. Also my bank account is verified. I think there should be another option besides - auction does not need a shipping address or add an address with credit card only. I realize this is for the sellers protection. But it is also unfair to those of us who have a verified bank account. Why should I look as though I don't have a verified address (or am hiding something) just because I am not comfortable with putting a credit card number out there? I would appreciate any information you can give.

"The money is in my paypal account, I am not using a credit card to pay for the auction. "
I objected to this on the PP partner services thread. Since PP does have my address (although I paid thru my PP balance), it tried to insist that I wanted shipping to that address. I clicked No Address, then simply told the seller where I wanted it shipped in the message block.
My situation was different than yours, but perhaps you can use the message block also.

I like it when sellers put their name and address in the message block ~ otherwise I have to cut and paste twice ~ once to get their name and once to get their address..

thanx for the info vinnie & thekismeme. I did put my shipping address in the message block. I just didn't like the thought that it would look fishy to sellers out there. Hopefully I will hear something back from paypal. I'll let ya know!

Sellers have to worry about charge backs on credit cards, where the buyre gives the seller a different address than the credit card and then claims they never got the item or the card was used without authorization. If the seller can not prove shipping to the correct address, the seller loses. However, if you are paying from your PP account and not your CC, the seller shouldn't have to worry about this. As long as your message in the payment box contains the address to ship, the seller can always prove to PP that s/he followed the buyer's instructions.

I had this problem this morning as well when I went to pay for an auction. I am verified with a premier account..howeve, I was paying with the funds in PayPal accnt...not a credit card. They would not let me put in an address without verifying my credit card which is already verified. And they wouldn't let me use the address that was already there....so...I said to heck with it and paid by check. I can't figure it and didn't want to go through re-verification since they already HAVE all the info when I verified.I was also afraid to re-do the info for fear of some glitch that would lock my account as has happened to so many people. I have a feeling PayPal has a computer glitch going on here, but their glitch could put me out of business...

yisgood, I can totally understand the reasoning behind it when it pertains to credit card payments. But when the funds are sitting right there in my paypal account (which I always keep a certain amount in, for when I win an auction), I think it is ridiculous. I just wanted to post something so that sellers are aware that when buyers put the shipping address in the message box, they are not all trying to hide something, just a problem with paypal.
I also noticed that when I put the shipping info in the message box, listed it as an auction payment, and checked the box that said no address needed for this transaction, it gave me a big red notice that said seller may reject payment because I didn't provide a verified address. OOOOKKKKKk.....so I went back and listed it as services, no address needed, and it went through fine. I also emailed the seller and told them why I didn't mark it as an auction, and that I put the shipping info in the message block....all the while feeling like I was doing something wrong.
