The good news is my customer finally received his package! Yup, sent priority mail from Bellingham, Washington on December 16th, was supposed to have been a Christmas gift for a bidder in New Jersey, package arrived today.

Amazing how Priority advertises 2-3 days delivery time in most cities. I too had a customer where I mailed her package on 12/26/00 via Priority and she didn't receive it until 1/6/01. From New Orleans to Oregon. Priority is getting ridiculously slow and they never want to honor insurance claims. I will start using FedEx 2nd day delivery. It's not much differnt in prices for much better service.

Well at least it got there. I sent a package UPS and we still haven't seen it. The tracking said it was delivered, left in the garage. Problem is they don't have a garage.

And then, on the other hand, I mailed a Priority parcel from NE Ohio to Alabama on a Monday afternoon at 4PM and it was delivered the next day before Noon!

One thing you can say for sure about the good ol'USPS, delivery is unpredictable!

Oh, I can top that!

I mailed a package priority from Port Orchard, WA on 1-3-01. Destination Renton, WA. Renton & Port Orchard are only about 2 to 2.5 hours apart, but neither of us felt like driving. She didn't mind paying for the shipping and felt safer that way. I thought that paying extra for priority mail was silly, but she insisted. Guess how long it took to get there....

It arrived 1-19-01.

Slower than snails sometimes! Faster than a speeding bullet others!

I have the quickest Priority Turnaround time ever.

A seller sent me an item from Oahu on December 10th at 3:59 PM (according to the time stamped on the USPS sticker stamp).

I got it on December 11th at 11:45 PM on Maui.

Beat that Express Mail!!

But, i'm still waiting for some packages from other sellers. I got one that was stamped on December 26th yesterday!!

Are they still P.O.ed because they didn't get their "precious" rate increases??

Priority mail....2-3 days (fine print under sign===> AVERAGE!) I recently changed job locations...I worked about an hour away from "my home address" post office...when I went to the post office TWO blocks from where I work....THEY REFUSED to wait on me, because I had 30 packages, said "You have to take those to YOUR OWN post office!!!" I couldn't believe it, they actually made me purchase stamps that I had to place on each package, then each package had to be stamped. Took me over half an hour to do this. I usually do not ask for individual zip codes, they can just do basic price which would have taken them maybe 5-10 minutes to do....I sent the packages, just hope they didn't get "lost" once they went behind the "wall".....I have since gone back to ONLY using MY POST OFFICE...funny though...they haven't got my name on the outside yet???

december3, it might not be as uncommon as we would hope. Delivery confirmation just confirms it was delivered, but it doesn't guarantee that it was delivered correctly.
At my last "real" job, I received a priority package in with other packages. I opened it and realized it didn't belong to me. It did have a delivery confirmation on the outside... and about $400 inside. I could have kept the cash and the poor sender and intended recipient would have had no recourse... since it was delivered.

I sent out a very large package 1/19 (contained two yard longs)parcel post from central Wisconsin - rural area- to street address in Milwaukee approx 2 1/2 hours away arrived the NEXT DAY 1/20! But then again, sent very small bubble mailing envelope first class to CA on Jan 2nd. The buyer declined the recommened postal insurance and emails me every day that his decal has not arrived. Tell it to your Postman Baby!, not responsible for the U.S. Postal Service non delivery and lost mail.

Guess we could go on and on about this but I have to add this one too..... On Nov 21 I mailed a package Express Next Day Delivery from New Orleans to Somners CT for 24.00 (orchids-yes perishable), however mailing a perishable item will not perish if it gets there the next day. Well, low and behold it made it 4 days....yes 4 days after paying 24.00 for NEXT DAY DELIVERY - GUARANTEED!! Filed a claim and they reimbursed me the 24.00 but would not honor the insurance b/c it was a perishable item. I filed an appeal so we will see but honestly even though it is a perishable item it would not have perished had the item been delivered as guaranteed. I ship orchids all over the US and this was the first one to freeze and with a guaranteed delivery to boot.

Just had a cross-country piece of Priority Mail turn up 21 days after it was sent.

In the same week, also had a First Class letter from the next state over take 14 days to reach me.

Oddly, I have had several pieces of Media Mail (book rate) reach me within 1-3 days of being sent.

We had some horrifying experiences during the holidays (and still do occasionally now) with Priority Mail......understandably with the holidays things are going to be a bit slower (and we warned customers ahead of time)but we had quite a few pkgs that took a week or longer, and some just plain "disappeared" into the USPS black hole...(or as someone said..."behind the wall..." lol!)...I guess the most frustrating part about all of this is when you get customers who blame the late or lost deliveries on us (the sellers)...it's usually the newbies who are the impatient ones and don't know any better...but try and get a couple of "negs" reverse by eBay from a bidder who just doesn't understand that the USPS, like everyone...makes mistakes once in awhile.......yeah, right........

I had one USPS Next Day Air arrive to me after 8 days, another after 14 days. I called our postmaster to try to discover the reason - his reply:

NEXT TIME USE UPS!

Hmmm.... not a bad idea ....

Your right, not a bad idea...that's why I've been encouraging my customers to use FedEx 2nd Day Delivery. Never can you go to the Post Office to discuss anything that they don't get hostile or you simply can't talk to them....they are always right. By some chance, are they related to the IRS???

I agree, I use only FedEx for important shipping and all my personal stuff. They have never failed me. The only disadvantange is that they will not ship to a PO Box... Recently, the company I work for started using DHL and USPS for most of their shipping needs. Somthing about lowering costs. Well, to make a long story short, we spend more time dealing with lost and late items than the savings. In short, remember, you get what you pay for.
