A looonnng time ago, some kind soul posted a whole bunch of tips on successfully selling wedding gowns, and I neglected to save the info and now I can't find the thread.

One thing that stood out was that she recommended waiting until January to list the dress.

So, it's January, and I'm gearing up to sell my (never worn) wedding dress. I need all the tips I can get, whether you're the original poster or not.

Specifically and first of all, where do I get a "formal box" to ship the dress in, and what other guidelines are there for shipping the dress to insure that it doesn't get crushed or wet or otherwise messed up?

My dress isn't a designer dress and it was reasonably priced (as far as those things go) at a discount bridal place (I paid around $400, it was on clearance and originally around $650), but OTOH it was NEVER worn, only tried on, and still has the plastic tag thingy hanging on it. Never altered either. Given that it's a higher end size (18) I am hoping to maximize the final bid on it. I don't expect to get back what I paid for it but the closer I can get, the better.

It has short sleeves and no train; does this make it "semi-formal"..?? It's very poofy, with a huge tulle skirt(no need for a crinoline)and beaded appliques on the skirt and a heavily beaded/sequined bodice.

It's a size 18 but this is whacked. I was a 12 when I bought it. Do most bridal shoppers understand this whole weird bridal sizing thing? I'll give measurements anyway but still. I was shocked when I started shopping for dresses and discovered that I wore an 18 in wedding gowns, even though I wore a 12/14 in street clothes. How stupid is that? You'd think that if their sizing wasn't going to be true to life, they'd go LOWER so as to flatter the bride-to-be! Ugh.

Anyway, any tips will be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

I'm looking for a wedding dress, and a size 18 wouldn't be bad for me AT ALL... can you email me a picture of it and when you'll be putting it up for sale on Ebay, soI can watch for it if interested?

I'll be glad to send you pics as soon as I get some. I am waiting for a friend to come over and model it for me, since I can't zip it up anymore!
