I've never had a problem with Billpoint, and I actually prefer them over any other payment method - but I recently had a customer who was unable to pay with Billpoint. She said Paypal used that same bank account with no problems and there was plenty of money in her account so she didn't understand why Billpoint wouldn't go through. She is now sending me a MO but she sent me this email I thought this was interesting:

I don't know what exactly is going on with Billpoint either. Paypal has the same banking information, etc. and they go through just fine. When I asked for instructions from Billpoint on how to terminate my account and delete my banking information from their system, they wanted me to send them via UNSECURE e-mail my password and password hint. I think that's bogus. They must think I am stupid.

Anyway, the money order is on its way. Don't let those Billpoint guys extricate your password from you over e-mail. It's pretty dangerous. I can't believe they asked me that...

So what do you think of that?

I'd say it's a good reason to never use Billpoint.

EG, some possibilities: 1) her credit card (or checking acc't) is either maxed out or empty, and otherwise declined; 2) she misunderstood the instructions; 3) she just didn't want to use BP.

IOW, the accuracy of her story is highly doubtful.

Fountainhouse - she really did try to pay through Billpoint. I received a notice from billpoint that she paid with her checking account, and then I received a notice that it was declined and to contact her. She said this was the 2nd time this has happened this week. I do not doubt her at all. Billpoint is not flawless. She has all positive feedbacks, and they all say Super-fast payment.

EG, the fact that her account *was* declined would indicate that she either didn't know that her balance was too low to pay the amount due, or that she knew but was trying to push it through regardless.

Either scenario doesn't give her much credibility, IMO.

Unless it has been changed very recently, the only way to close your BillPoint account is contacting them via email. There is no process on your BillPoint account to do that.

BillPoint does have some bugs. BillPoint have acknowledged seller's complaints that the BillPoint logo is appearing on some auctions even though they don't have a BillPoint account. (minor bug)

BillPoint reps have been acknowledging since July that some customers have shipping addresses of other customers, this is still occuring. (serious bug)

I have a Mastercard Debit card tied to my checking account. There is one company I buy from frequently. Everytime I try to use this card with them, it gets declined-regardless of how much money is in there. I have no trouble using a different card. I have talked to my bank about this and they have no clue why...
So your customer may be on the level here.
