I got this reply from another of my WBN.
I received your E-mail , for the item xxxxxxxx, but Saturday night my
father in law passed away.
And sorry I couldn't E-mail you my address and payment before.
I've seen threads on what people say to delay payment. So am I being the skeptic here or what?

It could happen. When my mother-in-law passed away it took us totally by surprize. In our shock and grief we messed up a few things. If they still want the item and are trying to pay for it, I'd send it with a note that said "sorry for your loss."
I know a lot of people make up excuses, but there's always that one that did have a car accident on the way to the PO or a sudden loss.

My brother passed away VERY quickly. One minute here the next he was gone. It took 2 weeks before I went back to my ebay stuff. I sent a short email to everyone leeting them know the situation and that I would be away for awhile. Everyone was great about it. I've had a couple of emails stating a death in the family would cause a delay--I always take it at face value. I figure I won't lose much if it is a hoax because I can always relist the item.

I dont think it's a good idea to lie, or joke, about death. I would hope that if someone sent you an email claiming a death in the family that it was for real. To me lying about a death is like walking over your own grave. *shiver*

I did send a reply expressing my sympathy. However, I just wanted to see what all you have to say. Thanks for the input.
