Hey all! I just bought a Sega Dreamcast. It's loads of fun, but I have a small problem. The box that it came in is in my way. I'm thinking of selling this box on eBay. Just the box. And perhaps the receipt. I thought I might list it as such:
Sega Dreamcast Original Box And Receipt
In the description of this auction I will say nothing more than this:
"This is an auction for the Sega Dreamcast original box and receipt. Shipping is Free. I accept paypal."
I might start the bidding off at $19.99 and see what happens. If the bidding really takes off and zooms up to somewhere in the neighborhood of $400, then I'll really be smiling. I mean, who would want to pay $400 for an empty box? Well, it's not really for me to say what's in the mind of eBay bidders. I'll just take the $400 and send them what was in the description: A Sega Dreamcast original box and receipt.
Does anyone have any problems with my little plan?

And not only that BUT done better, they would actually imply that the game was coming with it also, and then NOT even send the box. So you have really been a day late and a dollar short on this. Really your attempt at Humor was a little "weak", not subtle enough. Keep trying though!!! Oops,Wasp just noticed the other thread!?! Suppose this has something to do with that, Oh Well!

Well, if you DO decide to do that, be sure and remember to respond to the NEG your sure to get by saying something like: "sent exactly what was promised in auction, I DO NOT CHEAT PEOPLE-buyer is lying!" Of course, you'll want to then NEG the buyer for negging you and you should say something like: "I sent package promptly but buyer still negged me! BEWARE!!!" Who knows, you may luck out and not get a response to your neg!

Also, be sure to make a point of photographing the side of the box where the manufacturer taped it and don't tear the tape off. Close it back up again just like it was before! After all, that makes the box MUCH more valuable!

How much do those games weigh? OK, I'm out of the mainstream. But if they are heavy, why didn't the buyer smell a rat when charged the amount to ship an empty box? or was buyer charged as if getting the game, too?
keziak
I guess I think about shipping too much, huh?

Pay me that much for an empty box and I'll ship it for free...
Seriously, I would not even think about running such an auction without being more specific on the details...
A few more pictures with the lid open....so you could see nothing was in the box...except maybe the receipt...

That's why I will PAY SHIPPING! they won't know what it weighs until they get the empty box.

It was advertised as FREE SHIPPING. I would have not felt this too wierd (after all the final price was over $400). I have won several auctions where the shipping was free. Always on items that were over $100, so I would not have really thought this was strange!

I believe that the buyer didn't know it was an empty box until it arrived. Of course, the seller must not have said anything specific about the sale. After all, don't most empty cardboard boxes sell for around $400?

When hubby and the kids put the Christmas stuff in the attic, they spent some time straightening up. My husband told me the box from our first 386 Goldstar Computer is up there with some stuff in it.
How much you all think it's worth? (the box, not the stuff)

I just went and showed that locked thread to my husband....and when I clicked on the sale to show him the item and how the seller worded it, it says NOT A REGISTERED USER. Ebay booted him for what he did to that bidder!

Actually have seen boxes for current high end items for sale on ebay. It was clear it was only the box and was getting decent bids. Now that Sega has anounced that the Dreamcast will be discontinued it might make even more interesting. Good luck all.

Sorry, I don't think $425 is "nothing" and I don't think that an empty box, taped up to make it appear as if it was still full is "something".
The seller is a creep, and should be chucked out of Ebay and pursued for fraud.

I'm with you minova.
$425 is no small change and I would be extreemly ticked off if I was the buyer.
This guy should be fairly easy to persue do you think? Don't you have to have a valid CC on file to sell on Ebay nowdays?
I think this seller is going to regret his "bright idea"

I, for one, do not think this is funny.
I'm waiting for the thread that started this to be unlocked and I hope the seller or buyer appear; hopefully, both. IF it was not some "joke" auction, I think it is totally appalling.
The amount of money involved is not insignificant. The box itself is not collectible, come on!

Woo hoo! The seller is NARU!
They also stole the picture from someone else, who was miffed when they found out, and took the pic off.
But I still hope they come to the unlocked thread. I am looking forward to the discussion.

I am also one that does not think there is any humor in this, if you went and checked the feedback as the original thread suggests, you will see that his other 2 feebacks to buyers were written the day the item was shipped. But the one for the purchase of the empty box was not completed until he got negative feedback from the purchaser of his bogus auction. It was like he was laying in wait to ambush him yet again. For the seller to have that low of feedback and pull somthing that devious and swift, seems to me he knows his way around the ebay circuit a little better than the ususal newbie. I am glad to here he has a NARU. I think this is also an issue of ethics and morals. I am also asking myself if I had seen this auction and I was able to determine if this was an empty box, would I or could I contact the high bidder (who also had an under 10 feedback) and ask if he though or new this to be an empty box. Would this be allowed?
