After 600 plus successful auctions on ebay, I had my first dissatisfied customer this week. She asked for, and I granted, a full refund, due to some damage I overlooked. Unfortunately, this was a $500 plus item, so I would like to get a refund of the ebay commission. When I request a refund, ebay prompts me to file a NPB alert. The buyer did pay, so I don't want her to received a warning. Is there a way for me to get a refund with filing NPB? Thanks.

Oops, I meant to say in last sentence "Is there a way to get a refund without filing NPB?"

On the NPB report page, there's a pulldown menu asking for the reason for requesting credit. One of the no-fault choices is seller and buyer mutually agreed not to complete transaction. Use that one and file the NPB. eBay will email the buyer to verify that, then issue credit.

Thanks, that's what I'll do. I was afraid to hit the link, figuring that would trigger an ebay warning to the buyer. I guess Ebay doesn't want to make it too easy to do this-something about filing a "Non Paying Bidder Warning" that makes me hesitate.

Like many things on eBay (but not as many as in the past), the NPB "Alert" is poorly constructed. It SHOULD be a little more clear about what happens when you use each individual option, and especially about the fact that there are a few options that are completely no-fault, and will not cause a warning to be generated.

There is also a choice in the drop-down box that "buyer paid for item and returned it".
